Re: Building an amp
are you gonna be doing it over on 12mile in brekley? my mother used to run a clothing store in the building where the guitar shop is right next to you back in the late 70s and 80s mark
Re: Building an amp

First, you must learn to speak Chinese...
Please understand that IMO an answer to this question is of no practical relevance at all. - Max

All the info is now "out there".....folks just need to dig for it, apply themselves, experiment and practice to build skills (as with anything else in life)M Fowler wrote "Now days I get my lessons on this forum"

Re: Building an amp
I inquired about this some years back, and I've seen at least one other "amp camp" on offer (run by Triode in Chicago, if I recall).
Depending on where you are in the journey, you could learn a lot. It's only two days, though, and that has it's limitations. How much can you absorb in two days, and build an amp at the same time? If I could spend two days with someone like Bruce that would be fantastic, but there will be a dozen other people competing for his attention. Some of them will ask good questions and the answers will add to your knowledge, but other questions will be simplistic.
I think the best candidate for an experience like this is someone who is on the steep part of the learning curve, has some basic knowledge of electronics and construction skills, but wants some guidance in getting an amp built in a short time. Taken together, the cost of the class and materials is reasonable, and participants get a working amp at the end. For students with little or no previous construction experience, it's doubtful that the resulting amp will be a boutique showpiece, though.
I'm sure it would be great fun meeting people that share your interests. You have to get there and pay for lodging, and that adds to the bill, but it would make a nice weekend vacation.

Re: Building an amp
$1550, plus transportation, lodging, meals, hmmmm letsee.
1: Dental crown work - needed.
2: Have kitchen rebuilt by crew from Plymouth UK (remember them?) - - - - - maybe later for that.
3: "How 2 bild a AMp" - - - def. NOT.
All the answers "how to build" are right here, at no cost. Except where to find a reliable toroidal PT. I'll stick with good ol' fashioned PT's & leave the toroids to those who can afford failure.
"How to sell", now that's something else. Good luck!
"How to sell at a profit", no answers at all, unless you read Chinese.
FWIW Geral Dweeber now offers his "correspondence course" for only $600.
Send $600 and he may send you a post card & tell you how he spent the money.

Re: Building an amp
I'm thinking this could help my son. He's much too smart to learn anything from me. Doesn't know a resistor from a capacitor though.
And you build a kit the first day (instant gratification!), and the kit's included in the tuition. And the second day you learn about what you did. This could work.

Re: Building an amp
It does work. We've been doing these for a number years because we love doing it. It is just as gratifying for us as it is for the builders. Everyone has their own "best way" of learning something. Some of us learn best with some initial guidance from other knowledgable people like when we learned to play guitar. Others could just pick up the guitar and run with it. I do sense some negativity from some individuals implying a class like ours is a waste of time and money. Search for comments from previous amp class attendees to see the positive aspects.
