H-1645 in a Liverpool Clone?

Post by titanicslim »

I don't know if we've discussed it before but I put the terms "1645" and "liverpool" into the BB's search engine and got no hits.

The thing is, I've already gotten well into my build and I'm not sure where the idea of using this Hammond O.T. came from. Kevin O'Connor uses it in his version of the Vox AC-30, so I guess it can be done, but the Hammond info recommends it for the usual octal tubes. I'd appreciate opinions from members with more knowledge on the subject, please.

Thanks,
Dave

if its somwhere in the range of 4K primary impedance it will work for a quad of EL84's or a pair of 6L6's/EL34's

Well, you can use Hammond iron and you'll get a functional amp. You may not get a religous experience where the heavens open up and the voices of angels stream forth from your amp....

:-)

I personally would use different iron. I love Hammond for PT's and just noodling around trying out ideas, but prefer a more dedicated design for my OT. You can try the iron that Moose sells for the Express that has both 5.2K and 6.6K taps, or you can try the A470 Dyna Clone OT that Triode sells thats 4.2K - just ignore the ultralinear taps.

Triode also sells a inexpensive 4.2K transformer that might be worth checking out:

Seems the consensus is that Ken used the 4.2K Dyna iron on the Rocket, but not on the Liverpool... Or something like that. I'm sure someone more familiar with the 'pools will come along.

I have a Schumacher 4.2K thats going in my Rocketish amp, and have only used the Heyboer/Toneslut iron in my Express builds.
