8s are a waste of money, I found nothing that make my champs sound like 1963. Unfortunately I called it $quits$ before I tried the WGS 8 and this:

I'm curious too what everyone else recommends, but likely typical web poll lacking consensus will result. I would just get the the cheap Weber sig 8 the webworld and many boutique builders like and call it day.

Oh yes, settled on a Weber blue ceramic 8 but still too dark and not vintage correct. Jensen Mod 8 was monolitic muddy not far-out cool muddy. The Alpha will likely become my bench speaker if I ever get around to making a box for it.

I recently put one of these into a SF VibroChamp rehab and was VERY impressed with the results.

I will admit that it is the only 8" speaker that I have ever bought and I only played it for an hour or so (probably not fully broken in).

But...it sounded fantastic right out of the box in that circuit. Very full/round tone and not at all "boxey" like I was expecting. Seems like it would be hard to beat at $40 a pop!

Was it vintage fendery bright? That's what I want, to balance out the 5F1s darkness, and couldn't find. But the Vibro Champ is a different animal than the Tweed. The break up point has to be right too for a 5F1, too cheap and weak and you get dark mud or farty kazoo, too sturdy and strong and you get congested industrial buzz, like a bad amp with too many knobs.

Definitely Fendery bright! Too much so even on my LP Custom on the bridge pick-up. But...I didn't spend a huge amount of time twiddling around dials to optimize.

A pleasant pushed blues tone came on at around 2:00 on the volume dial and there was no flub/mud all the way up to max volume. No buzzy bees to be heard anywhere.

However, it wasn't as silky-smooth a distortion as I like but I chalked that up to being a new speaker. I don't believe that the speaker was breaking up at any time as its power rating is well above the output of the amp.

I have a WGS 8" that I like much better than the Weber sig 8" AlNiCo I had before it in the Valve Jr. combo cab.

I have not tried any of the more expensive Webers.

Really love several of the weber line, but the sig 's, not so much.
