Not the ultimate table saw by any means, but at $299 its good value, and way better than what I was using.

I probably won't get it out of the box till this weekend.

It's kinda funny really. I know you'll have fun and build some good stuff with that saw but I could have made some recommendations on older used stuff that you can get for less on Craigslist and that have better quality. It's kinda shitty to rain on your parade so I'm sorry. I've had one of those when I lived on my boat. it's compact and portable for sure. Now that I'm on dry land I bought a used Powermatic model 66. This here Craftsman is a good saw that I've owned and made tons of great cabinets with. This one was on Craigslist locally for $99. I gave mine to my nephew when I got the big saw. The trick is to get the cast iron table and extensions and the direct drive motor. You can still get new bearings from Accurate Bearing. Again, sorry. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new saw...especially if you need it compact. The Craftsman is not compressible.

I agree completely except for direct drive being more desirable.pretty much any real table saw I've ever used was belt driven.
I still use a 50s TS every day they are better than comparable modern saws except the fence of course.

That pretty much looks like my craftsman saw. Mine is belt drive.

Belt drive is preferred I agree. The reason I like these old DD Craftsman saws is that they always seem to make a cut that is exactly blade wide and they are quiet. Belt drive contractor or cabinet saws usually have a bigger motor and can power through whatever comes their way if you NEED that. For the 1 by work that we do making head and speaker cabs these old gems are all you'll ever need.

I can throw that little DD saw in the back of my pickup by my lonesome. And I ain't very big.
