Sunn Model T hum balance
I noticed on the old Sunn Model T's that they used a hum balance pot, but with a 1K resistor across each side. Do you think this was to provide protection against a bad wiper contact, or just so they could use a more common value pot?

R48, the hum trim pot is a 10k with a 1K resistor going from the wiper to each end, in effect the pot is less than 1K.
One can only guess why they went with that set up?

Cool circuit! I may try that with a 10k bias type pot because a 200R pot with 3/8" bushing is not easy to find

I like the Sunn Model T Super better with the inductor.

Conrad Sundholm still makes amps outside Portland, and was posting over at Hoffman amps not that long ago. How crazy is that?! It's like if Ken Bran showed up on TAG. I guess I could ask him Conrad himself! I do know that his brother used that amp for bass when he played in the Kingsmen (see: "Louie, Louie."
Re: Sunn Model T hum balance
They probably used that arrangement for the hum balance because they had a lot of 10K pots on hand. That's my guess anyway. If someone looked in one of my amps and saw the 360 ohm faux center tap resistors and tried to analyze the magic mojo behind that--well--360 ohm was the lowest value I had on hand.
The Sunn Model T--oh my. That amp is responsible for my hearing loss. I played one of those amps for years. It was usually cranked. It was loud. Now I say, "what?" a lot of the time and hear mosquitos even in the winter time. But, I loved that amp. No one could beat me in the volume wars.
