Hi

If your PT has sufficient heater current, then you can substitute other power tubes into the 5E3 circuit. You will have no more power, but different tone.

Been there, done that. I used the amp to test the tonal properties of power tubes and tube rectifier sag. I tested el34 Kt 66 Kt 77 6550 Russian 6l6 vintage 6v6 & 5881 tubes。 The subjective winner, the russian 6l6 nos

Cheers all, I wont be buying in kit form & will source all the parts for the 5e3 on the net & tubetown...
Gonna buy the chassis & turretboard and set about the board for starters.

So am i right in thinking from looking at the diagram all the resistors are 0.5 watts unless stated otherwise ?

As for the 2 watt resistors , will 3 watters be ok on the board or should i stick exactly to the wattages stated ?

Thanks

Consider using Bluebell for the transformer/s at least.
Philip is very helpful and the Hammond range should include something to suit http://www.bluebellaudio.com/guitartransmain.htm

The 291CEX may suit a 5E5 or 5E5-A fairly well, guess a static B+ of about 410V with a 5U4.
if you're going to drop 6L6GC's into a 5e3-ish circuit .., you've got to remember that the drive voltage required to make full power is about three-to-five times what is necessary for 6v6's--especially if you're going to shoot for something over 400V on the plates and bias accordingly
matt, I can't see that the signal drive voltage requirement will be much different for 6L6 or 6V6.
My experience is that either should settle to a static cathode voltage somewhere between 20 and 30V, which may rise to 40-50V at full crank.
As Vk defines the signal voltage required to reach clipping (at Vg-k =0), the same cathodyne etc arrangement could serve either.

Thanks for all the help fellas ! I've decided on the 5e3 build..I love those little amps and really wanna build one....Just getting things in my head and plan out before i buy all parts etc....I shall be using Ceriatone layout.

I will use the bus ground scheme only a little unsure where the 22uf (40v) grounds too (?)

I figure the filaments from pilot light goes PT then off to pins 2 & 7 of the 6v6s.

Thanks all :)
