Yeah, I know.
My wife has been a medical assistant for 28 years.

Get comfortable on the couch with lots of pillows and watch TV, lots of TV. Nothing too funny, for me anything with Tom Sellek seems to work the best, Sacketts movies, westerns, Jesse Stone, Magnum P.I., Or if you have cable the olympics are on.
Just interesting enough to keep your mind off things, yet boring enough to fall asleep too, and nothing to make you laugh to hard. Stay hydrated, sleep as much as possible.
Only play fenders with the contour body for the next couple months.

Have you tried co-codamol, I have osteo arthritis in the knees I find when it gets to bad it does the job, Naproxen is also good for inflammation and non adictiveStructo wrote:Wow, that Tardive dyskinesia sounds nasty!
But to be honest, if I make it to 75 I'm probably dreaming.
My accident is sure to take a while to recover from since they really don't do anything for ribs unless it is a displaced (compound) fracture.
I just got back from the last doc visit and this time I insisted on an X ray.
I had to see the 'doc of the day' as they say, for urgent care.
Unfortunately and not to sound homophobic, she was a man hater and didn't treat me with the best bedside manners.
She acted like she thought I was a drug addict when I asked for more pain killers than a two day supply.
Right in their own description for broken ribs, they say the only treatment for broken or cracked ribs is pain medicine.
I did not ask for Oxy, just more Vicodin.
She finally relented but only gave me 10 more tabs.
And I noticed on the after visit summary that she prescribed it as, "1 to 2 tabs before bedtime".
I guess my pain only occurs at bedtime now.......![]()
She said she did see a fracture but a radiologist will make the final interpretation of the X ray.
Well I knew that because I can feel it floating around and grinding.
Oh well, it could have been worse.
I could have broken my fall by putting my hand out, but then I would be dealing with a broken wrist.

Naproxen AKA Aleve is a perfectly good NSA - big butt BUT here - does not go well with alcohol. Non of the NSA's do. Stomach/intestinal bleeding plus it puts a hurtin' on your liver. So - read the fine print and that's pretty much what it says. It's a favorite of my ol' college buddy the MD. Who broke his hip @ age 58 while bicycling and he had a jar full of it thank hevvins.jestaudio wrote:Naproxen is also good for inflammation and non adictive

yes, NSAIDs are good but I also have Ulcerative Colitis, (sort of like Crohn's) so I have to watch things that can cause a bleed.
I have actually started using Aleve (Naproxen) instead of Ibuprofen in the last couple years.
Each day gets just a bit easier.
I have to make sure that I practice deep respiration because the enemy of chest trauma is Pneumonia.
And I am ashamed that I still smoke cigs.
I know, I know......
Addictions are a bitch.
One thing that is great is the amount of knowledge on the internet.
I know doctors hate it because they don't want anybody to challenge their ten year degree but it also makes us aware to shams and malpractice.
So I guess I will wait for the radiologists report although I think I know what he will say.
The last two nights were on the recliner which was a bit easier than trying to find a comfortable position in bed.
And something else I have discovered in my middle age is that
when you have an accident, it hurts more and takes longer to heal.

The natural stuff can't be patent (i.e. profit) protected.
We have side effects so the drug companies can make money hand over fist until the generics come along, then we're stuck with varying degrees of effectiveness, all the same side effects but now the insurance companies can make out a little better.
Plus if you go get the natural stuff on your own, the guy with the prescription pad doesn't get his cut.

Re: Broken Rib(s) Anybody?
bruised/cracked ribs a few years back. Was given hydrocodone, and while didn't do much for the pain I slept like a teenager for a week. Worst was trying to put on socks.
Re: Broken Rib(s) Anybody?
OMG I sneezed this morning, hard!
I think I set back the healing process by three days.
I wish I could just go to sleep for six weeks.

Re: Broken Rib(s) Anybody?
After my open heart surgery spreading my chest apart I had a lot of coughing and having my small heart shaped pillow the hospital gives you really helped, man that hurts I feel for you.
When I broke my ribs I used a wrap around my chest but someone already said that was not a good idea but worked for me, or duct tape.

Re: Broken Rib(s) Anybody?
Got the X ray report yesterday.
Two broken ribs, three cracked ribs.
The bottom of the summary said, sorry about the pain, get better soon.
Thanks a lot doc.
