Trouble shooting HRD

Post by Hoot »

HRD had crackle and pop while on. Pulled the back. Changing tubes and had a spark from R61. Need to replace this one first. Spec says 1watt, 470 ohms. Question is is this a metal foil or carbon type? Best place to find replacement?

Changing tubes and it sparked? How?

Metal foil. I don't think there are any carbon comp resistors in a modern HRD.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com

I was cleaning the tube sockets working on the crackle problem. Put the GT whites back in and turned on the amp. Spark came out of R61. Blew a hole in it! Planning on fixing R61 and replacing the power tubes as one was running very hot.
