Here is a solution for getting a good EVH tone.

I remember there was a web site. You uploaded your audio clip, the clip would get played thru a speaker in a big missile silo or something, recorded at the other end, and sent back to you.

All we need is for EVH to leave his rig on all night, and connected to the intertubez.

I can nail the EVH tone. Unfortunately no one wants to sound like Earl Victor Hanny. It's kind of twangy.

He was the guitarist on Brandy:

I'm making all this up. Reel made me do it.

Myself and a few friends came to my parents' house one day, and my little brother was belting this song out in his bedroom at the top of his lungs. We teased him for weeks.

At the time, my favorite albums were Close to the Edge by Yes, and the newly-released Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd.

Now I kinda like the song...

Just out of curiosity because I think there are a couple IT guys here, isn't the hosting company that provides the server for the forum supposed to be on top of any malware/ virus threats?

Wouldn't it be on them to fix it and prevent future breeches?

Or is the Target store breech just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to server security?

I read some stuff after we realized that we had shopped at Target during the time they got hacked and one of the biggest problems in the USA is the lack of security protection on debit/ credit cards.
With only a four digit PIN or just a signature that really isn't verified, it is very high risk for security vulnerability.

I believe I read that in the European market they have much higher standards for authorization.

It depends on the agreement you have with the hosting company. Basic server hosting is that they provide the hardware and connectivity. They keep those two things up and running. You "own" everything else (OS, apps, etc).

More costly arrangements can be made for the host provider to support the OS and apps, provide backups, etc. But... they are more costly. Not sure what kind of setup metroamp had, but it sounds like a basic plan.

I'm a moderator at another music-related site. I also occasionally pay for the annual hosting (a few of us take turns). We use the standard phpBB hosting application (same as here and just about everywhere).

We have an IT Wizard on our team who serves as a site admin. He's very good. Even so, we've been hacked with DOS attacks several times, and worse. It's our responsibility to perform site back-ups and recover from anything that takes the site down. Even if the hosting servers lose our data, it's our responsibility to upload it again. We've operated that way for quite a few years with never more than a one-to-three days downtime (more than one day only prolonged by logistics, if our IT guru is unavailable). Once code is back on the server, it still can take a day or two to propagate throughout the WorldWideWeb.

This Metroamp situation implies there is either no back-up (almost unthinkable in this day-and-age), or there is no willingness to deal with keeping a site online with miscreant-hackers reeking havoc with impunity.

I hope the administrators are keeping this site backed up.

There is so much good information here that it would be a crime for it to go missing.

Count your blessings! I've had nothing but trouble since "upgrading" to Mavericks (MaveRISK) 10.8. Terrible!
