Snap shot of inputs
Hi Cbass,
Tested out 6L6GC, KT66s, and 5188s.
5188s sound best to my ear.
Can you snap a shot of your inputs?
I would like to see how you wired those.
I used switch craft inputs.
I did not used ant resistors on the grids but I am curious to know what you do.
Thanks,
Decko

I haven't wired the inputs yet.but I will post some pics
Re: not sure what I'm doing?super drive? Marshall?
Well shit I fired it up and made some noise.the presence control was actin all crazy so I went to swap the pi plates and the tip on my iron took a dump. I new it was going bad and you can't get one in this town so now I guess I have to wait for a tip.
I may try to file off a spot and see if I can get a couple more joints out of it.

Sure you can. You can also drive to Walmart and get a $10 iron that will last at least three builds.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

They got a 13 dollar Weller at the lumber co
I guess I better go do some work more busted pipe yes I get to roll around in the mud and slop in 15 degree weather

Get that Weller. Plug it in, and plunge it in, and warm up that mud before you have to wallow in it!cbass wrote:They got a 13 dollar Weller at the lumber co

My father had a car that was hard to start in the cold (not often in Savannah). So he'd park in on top of the patio out back after work at night. Then he'd light a small fire under the oil-pan in the morning to warm the engine a bit. True story.

Well I manger to get the wires soldered.after weeding through some more bad JJ tubes it fired right up.
Holy crap! This thing rips this is by far the best amp I ever built
.the master volume is incredible it sounds nearly as good at low volumes as loud I haven't cranked it all the way up yet but it seems very stable and quite.
I've only tried it with a tele with some buckers it would melt faces plum off.
Tried a delay pedal in the loop worked great even with massive distortion

Re: Snap shot of inputs
I didn't use grid resistors but I may need some cause I was picking up horrible pop country radio .I did tie the shields to the plates not sure how safe that is but I did it.Decko wrote:Hi Cbass,

.I'm thinking about ditching the 100pf on the input I wouldn't mind it a little brighter
Re: not sure what I'm doing?super drive? Marshall?
Congratulations!
Can I ask what you used for a schematic after the PI outputs?
Also, you mention great master volume performance. Is that the pre-PI effects return pot of which you speak?
Rawk on!!

I just went somewhat Marshall on the output since I'm using el34s.I attached another schematic no idea if its correct.I did a lot by looking at various pictures on the web.I noticed there was a lot of variation from amp to amp compared to schematics.ampgeek wrote:Congratulations!

Yes the MV is on the recovery stage of fx loop.right before the pi.
I'm gonna post some pics as soon as I clean up a couple things

One thing I noticed is my presence pot didn't do much.the circuit is a little funky to me but Ive been reading about how kickass it is.
Re: not sure what I'm doing?super drive? Marshall?
Thank you sir! Yep...sure seems like a bit of mystery surrounds these beasts.
However, the clips sound effing awesome and it sure seems like a great project for sometime in the future.
I have a used Bassman 5F6A PT that is in excellent shape and an unused Heybor Express OT hanging around waiting for some action. This might be just the ticket for those items.
Looking foward to seeing how it all ends up for you. Excellent I am sure!
Thanks again,
Dave O.

I would have had to shove it down my britches to keep warm today wind chill in the negativesNickC wrote:Get that Weller. Plug it in, and plunge it in, and warm up that mud before you have to wallow in it!cbass wrote:They got a 13 dollar Weller at the lumber co

I'm gonna check my wiring again to make sure.then I might try the martinizercbass wrote:One thing I noticed is my presence pot didn't do much.the circuit is a little funky to me but Ive been reading about how kickass it is.

Congrats! And thanks for turning me on to these amps, I'm excited to try one at some point. How do you like it compared to hi/lo Marshall type?
