Has anyone heard this story?

Post by jckid649 »

I came across a story on an amp company's website Thunderfunk Amps that claims quite an interesting tale about his relationship with Ken Fischer and Trainwreck amps. Does anyone know if this is true or one of many tall tales?

Yes, it's true--he used to post here. :)

Yes, it's true what he says on his website. I had quite a few phone conversations with Dave back in the mid 90's (I think it was--my memory for history isn't all that great). He told me some things about amps with the understanding that I would keep it confidential. I gave my word and stuck to it. Don't PM me asking for details. Unless Dave himself releases me from the confidentiality, I feel I am bound to it. I haven't had any contact with Dave in many years.

Dave has a way about him that tends to grate on some people--it's the way he is. But, he does know his sheet. I'm not defending him--he is more than capable of doing that himself, lol.

It's all true, similarly to Jana, I spoke with Dave via phone in the early mid 90's. He was still in Nashville then.

A very intelligent engineer with a very in depth knowledge of amps. A few years ago he had an amp clinic in the Chicago area, have not heard much of him lately.

Yeah, that is the later board blank specification... it's the white colored stuff and I haven't found any in the salvage and excess resources I have access to. I don't know how thick the material is but I think it's not quite as thick as the old stuff.

The old original Vectorbord has a .265 hole spacing and that's what he used for the first Liverpools and Express builds. It came in a variety of brown or tan colors.

I would suggest that your layouts are probably correct based on the older builds...

Sure, it's true. He and Ken were both writing columns in VG mag when they connected. Dave's articles ended up being the book he ultimately published. And he did post here a few years back before things got -IMO - kinda crazy/ugly and he bailed. He was rather outspoken, as is his way in general, and some here took a dim view of that. I also remember he was criticized for not being more of a 'sharer' - which was a little premature (I thought) since he started posting and then left in a matter of 2-3 months. I mean, if your guest comes to the house, do you immediately ask him where the bottle of wine is? Oh well, it was a matter of ego all around but I hated to see him go, truth be told.

As a parting shot the one thing he said that I remember was something like this: 'If someone came to this forum and said he was a friend of Ken Fischer and who also had a first hand working knowledge of the TrainWreck amps, you would think he would be welcomed with open arms.'

Ha, and I think he had a point.
