Reverb 3 Spring Unit

Post by ApexJr. »

Hi All...

I have a chance to buy quite a few of a Belton BL3AB2C1B
info here http://www.belton.co.kr/neowiz/img_home/belton_no11.pdf

I see they are a 3 spring 10 ohm input and 2575 ohm output
they measure 16 7/8" long and there is also a reverb PC Mount transformer
I can buy too.

I don't know anything about these and want to know if this is a good
item to stock and if there is any interest here, at a price lower than anybody
else.

Hi, Steve, nice to see you posting here!

I'll need a couple reverbs for Princeton builds. Last time I bought a Mod tank from cedist.com for something like $13 plus shipping. It was the "3: long decay" tank. I see yours are "2: medium" decay. I'd give that a try.

Do you have any PTs or OTs for Princeton? ~8k primary at 15 watts.

If I do buy this deal I will post it here.

My price point will be at the $12.00 - $14.00 depending on my shipping
cost.

I'm just hoping for more feedback before I buy...
Transformers useful?

As for Output transformers I'm sold out and PT

I have no first-hand experience, but I'm going to do a bit of guessing.

I considered a build with reverb a few years ago and did a great deal of reading before deciding against it. Belton bought Accutronics (Gibbs), so I figure both brands are the same. The reading suggested neither brand is up to the old Accutronics/Gibbs, and that was disappointing to learn.

I imagine, in your line of business, you really don't want to get stuck with too much stock yet you have to meet a certain minimum to get the deal. I'm having a hard time thinking these will move like hot cakes at your expected price point, though it is considerably below the $18-20 we often see. As I see the problem, the cost of the tank alone isn't that much of a factor in a reverb amp build. It is all the other stuff that tends to add cost to the build.

I'm thinking if you bargain hard and get your margin up, maybe the deal would work for you.

Good luck, Steve.

Hi Steve,

I've ordered quite a bit from you over the years.

I've used the MOD version of the 3 Spring tank and it sounds very good. The 3-spring is a little less spring-y and surf-y sounding than the traditional 2-spring. The 3-spring is really just a Fender style with an extra spring. I don't know if that helps, but my point is that is that it's a direct replacement for a Fender and is a tonal upgrade in my opinion, but at the same time is not as common or popular as the traditional 2-spring units.

As for the PC mount transformers, I would pass on those. Us DIY builders stay away from PCBs like the plague, especially when it's something like a reverb driver which is readily available with leads. JM2C.
