Rocket Schem

Post by benoit »

I'm a little confused by the schem in teh files section. Its missing all the power supply stuff. Is this taken from an express? Or is there a complete drawing somewhere? I've done some searching but haven't turned up anything yet.

If I'm not mistaken, the Rocket uses the same power supply as the Liverpool.
Only the preamp is different.

I's a liverpool B+ chain except it starts with 300VAC through a 5AR4 recto.

Also, although I build with the 1k 2w B+ resistor, the originals had a choke, I think...

Thanks Guy, Paul.

Paul, what do you like about the resistor as opposed to the choke? Is it just simpler?

Choke is not needed for hum reduction and does nothing for tone. So... No sense adding the expense. (IMO)

Anyone got a rocket schem with the power section drawn? I will undertake the drawing as a last resort but I'm not sure if I would be able to do it.

Use liverpool schem, replace SS recto with 5ar4 and use the 300VAC taps from the standard PT...

I've also found that the Rocket seems to be the least documented of the lot, although I've put together most of the info... if anyone has the complete schematic and any other additional info I would be greatly appreciative if you'd send it my way.

I would be extremely pleased to learn more about that OPT if anyone has the specs on it.

Any internal photo shots and such would also be greatly appreciated.

RJ over the next few days I will be combing the annals of the forum all the way back to its inception, and whatever info I find I will share. I will probably end up drawing a schem to post for people to check. Haven't seen any info on iron to speak of.

Everyone should go back and read the old stuff, kinda made me chuckle to see a post in which Allyn was asking if anyone had a layout/schem for a Wreck... Allyn?? You were a kid once too??

Here is a layout I made using bits and pieces from Nik's Liverpool and Mark's Rocket Preamp layouts and with input from Paul Ruby and Tubedogsmith. It is not exact but it will give you an idea on how to mate the power sections.

Good luck with your builds.

So Nik does build rockets? Must be just one-offs, as the Rocket isn't listed. Anyway, thanks for your input.

I once looked carefully in the board and besides all the info (schematic/layout wise) that is usually found first hand I also found this one drawn by Matt Taylor, hope it helps.

Is it me or are there practically no differences between the Rocket and the regular AC30 TB channel?

All I can see in the schemo are:
- stiffer filtering
- and series vs star arrangement of the preamp PS filters

Am I missing something?

Thanks
