It was 50 years ago today.......

Post by Teleguy61 »

I am 65.
I can still remember the exact moment when I heard that JFK had been shot.
10th grade, physics class, Mr Emery the teacher, a senior, Harry Shipman, came in and spoke with Mr Emery and then told us,
"The President has been shot in Dallas."
There is before, and after, that moment.
Hope, idealism, optimism, seem to have died that day.
"Let the record show, the torch has been passed...", that kind of idealism is inconceivable in 2013.
It is a huge loss.
A sad day in memory, a sad day indeed.

I remember being in elementary school heard the awful news and when I got off the school bus I found my parents gathered around the dining room table grieving. It was a shocker to see them so distraught at that young age.

They keep the old newspaper clippings and had bought a large JFK book which I still have today.

I wasn't even a twinkle in my parents eye at that time, but I recall them talking about JFK and his assassination repeatedly when I was young. Very tragic indeed. They both could tell me exactly what they were doing when it happened.

It was announced over the school intercom.

We had several bomb raid practice drills in the days that followed. We were instructed to hide under our desks to protect us from thermo-nuclear deployments by the USSR.

We'd all seen WWII film footage of the Hiroshima blast, and inherently knew the futility of cowering under a flimsy school desk. But more importantly, it was an excellent primer in discerning the idiocy of school administrators and the national government at large. Neither of those parties deserves an iota of credibility. Not then. Not now. Not ever.

Common Core? That's the modern equivalent of hiding under the desk against the onslaught of an Orwellian nightmare come true.

I was in the 1st grade.

I don't really remember much because of passage of time and also reading everything I could about it.
Sort of a memory of a memory.

But yes, we were sent home around lunch time.

I do remember watching our black and white TV about it.

It was a surreal time in our history and even 50 years later there are a lot of questions unanswered.

Yes all last week I recorded most of the JFK programs, especially the ones made this year.

There are some interesting theories.

James Files fired the fatal head shot from the grassy knoll with a Remington Fireball pistol chambered in .221?

I don't want to make light of this tragic event (I remember it much as others here do), but this is just too funny:

I watched the JFK and lee Harvey Oswald documentary's that were shown
this week.
They say all classified material will be released in 2038, 75 years later

The conspiracy folks never seem to get some of most verifiable technical aspects correct; the 222 Remington, 223 Remington (NATO 5.56) and 221 Fireball are not calibers, they are cartridge designations. They all fire the same .224 diameter bullet and always have since inception.

You have people that the say the 6.5 Carcano cartridge is neither accurate or a true high powered rifle cartridge. Shooting from a 6 story elevated position at 76 yards while looking through a 4X scope was akin to basically standing on top of the motorcade. The 6.5 Carcano with 1770 ft/lbs of energy at 80yds will eviscerate the fluid filled cranial cavity.
