Lovely wood Mikey.

Is that also known as spalted maple?
Or are those considered mineral streaks?

Not sure I have seen that kind of flame with the streaks before.

Awesome!

They are similar, but slightly different. Spalting is caused by fungus. Spalted maple is just that, maple that has been infected with a fungus or various fungi. Ambrosia maple has been infested with ambrosia beetles. The beetles bore small tunnels in the trees. These tunnels then become infected with fungi causing discoloration in the zones around the tunnels. You can tell the difference by inspecting the wood. You'll see the tunnels as small holes within the spalted zones on ambrosia maple boards.

Beautiful cab BTW!!

Keeps exterminators and contractors in business. I wonder if orange oil is effective on those buggers.

NOPE (big frowny w/implied smiley)

The best maple I have ever seen in person was ruined. Deep two and three finger full curl. Enough to build a log cabin too... at least a large cottage. heh

So beetles.

How about mineral streaks as sometimes seen on maple topped Gibson LP's?

She'll know what to do re. the pic posting problem.
The only way I get techie stuff right is when the girls come home from school, roll their eyes, and get my PC attempts sorted out.
