Re: Burger Time
You know, I have always been afraid to eat at one of those taco trucks.....
If I can't drink the water down there, I am certainly not going to eat the food.
BTW, most Hepatitis and other food born diseases are transmitted by people that don't wash their hands after taking a shit.
Or, they poop in the farm rows with no sanitation.
There is a definite problem with sanitation with certain ethnic groups.
And no, I am not a bigot.

Re: Burger Time
Cultural differences are the bitch. I don't want loud horn music and multi-colored houses made of old crates on my block. I liked it when the World was compartmentalized. You used to travel places and see interesting things different from what you'd find at home. Now, I go to Walmart and growl at the non-compliant culture invaders.
Switzerland. If you want to see what I mean you have to go to Switzerland.
Yessir. Multi-cultural zizz is pretty much propaganda to change us all into homo treacle-sapiens.
Did anyone see the onion debate about how every city needs it's own blue whale so the children can appreciate sea life? Yeah. I am not a popular guy when the business of social science hits my inbox. There should be no graduate level engineer deciding what's good and not.
Game theory. I know too much to ignore that it's being used against me.

I don't want to come off as a xenophobe.
But when a new neighbor paints their house (which is right next door) a very bright blue, which doesn't come close to any other house in this lower middle class neighborhood, I have to say that I feel violated.
Sure we don't have a neighborhood committee that determines what color you can paint your house, but common sense dictates that a fluorescent blue house does not blend well with earthy tones that predominate the neighborhood.
I really hate the feeling of being person that is prejudiced, but why in the hell should I have to change my culture when my family has been here for 5 generations and were first among the first pioneers that founded this state.
Why do I have to push #2 for English?
I could say a lot more but I choose not to.......
Needless to say, this really bothers me.

Being in the construction industry the illegal immigration thing hits close to home.It could easily be stopped by fineing the people that hire them so much .it wouldn't be worth it to hire illegals.
Hell one of very good ol boy representatives here has an entire sawmill operation ran by illegals.he claimed that the locals wouldn't work.I imagine they wouldn't for 6 bucks an hour and treated like shit the whole time.

Re: Burger Time
I respectfully disagree. The government does not have the financial resources to curb illegals. Furthermore it would cripple a lot of small business. I hate to say it but a lot of people born in this country simply do not or will not take menial labor jobs. Eliminating illegals would cause those employers to pay much higher wages to attract non illegals. The result would be a lot higher prices at your local restaurant and many other businesses. It would hurt the economy immeasurably. It is not the answer. I really don't have a solution but I would think it would help if we were able to get illegals to pay into the system. GIVE them a SS number that denotes they are here illegally and let them pay taxes at a higher rate. You want to come here to work?....pay for it. Let them get a drivers license and pay for insurance like everyone else. Let them pay for medical benefits and schools like the rest of us.....at a higher (non citizen) rate.cbass wrote:Being in the construction industry the illegal immigration thing hits close to home.It could easily be stopped by fineing the people that hire them so much .it wouldn't be worth it to hire illegals.

The fact is you are not going to stop immigration so stop trying. We still need to secure our borders though.
Re: Burger Time
I guess I'll have to agree to disagree.people around here still mow there own yards.I don't see how paying more for a meal at a restaraunt offsets losing 10 s of thousands good paying jobs.I manage to pay my guys a good wage I'm sure other business owners could too.greed is the driving factor

Re: Burger Time
Yep, I have to agree with Cbass.
Unless you are in an industry that is affected by illegal immigration, you really don't understand our predicament.
As an example, Joe has four employees including himself.
He bids jobs that will pay his workers a fair wage plus any benefits they receive.
For non-union wages this comes out to be around $15-20 an hour but probably less.
So Joe bids the appropriate cost and waits to hear from the builder.
But he never does because José agrees to do the job for 1/3 less, because he pays his workers $8.50 an hour and they are illegal so they won't complain.
Plus he doesn't pay workmen's comp or social security, so he can afford to bid lower.
I kid you not, I was in construction for over 30 years and saw this happen time after time.
Now when in 2008 the depression started, yes depression, all of a sudden there were no jobs, period, in construction.
But the non union guys can go out and find work for $5.00/ hour to try and support their families.
I don't blame them, they are trying to survive.
But what I do blame is our Federal government that does not enforce the borders.
Why should I suffer due to illegal immigration when I have lived here my whole life and had earned a decent living?
The day they grant all these illegals citizenship will be a sad chapter in our history, where U.S. citizens are concerned.
And I believe that the people that have immigrated legally feel cheated because they worked hard for their status while others cheat the system.
If anybody is thinking to get into construction, don't bother, you can't earn a family wage anymore.
