Totally agree. The new Oranges are more Marshall than Orange. A real orange has a James tonestack and a Cathodyne PI.

Yeah I wanna go with the James and Cathodyne PI. 2 EL34 output too. Should be more than enough. FAC, Treble and Bass, Boost and Volume keeping it simple.

Any info on PT voltage or OT impedance? Like a Marshall 3K4 or so??

I think I would use Hiwatt clone trannies, or something wideband like Edcors.

There's an Ike and Tina show out there, maybe on you tube, IIRC the whole show, with an entire Orange back line, man is it ever orangy sounding, great reference, great show.

I checked but all I have for schematics is what's on Hoffman's site. Looks like 180-0-180 with a ss full wave bridge. Here's the rest of what I got:

Yes I would! A 72 model is about the model I'd like to build. I'm going for a 50 watter with 2 EL34's.
So questions:
Could you get voltages for the plates and screens?
Is the FAC after the first gain, tone stack and second gain stage?
Is there a choke in the boost circuit?

You can find schematics if you google orange amp field guide. The FAC comes after the second gain stage, which is after the tone stack. I would consider different cap values for that, since it gets too thin too quick in my opinion. I would also go for the earlier version of the PI, as on the '1972 'pics only' OR120. Then lastly, I would consider a grid resistor on the PI, which I got from Merlin's book. Just some thoughts. I have done a few of these, but took many liberties and came up with my own layouts.

Personally I would go for upper 400's for the B+. I'll bet if you plugged in a vintage orange it would be 520+.

I'll take you up on pics and voltages - nice voltage chart of V1 thru V4 and welcome aboard EdsBenedict.

The sound is of an amp running +500V on El34. 360V x 1.4 = 500V

to the OP if you paint your chassis orange and use blue edcors you'll have a perfect amp for a NY Mets fan.

This Orange 120 should be in a kit so we all could rock the town, such clean builds no clutter inside this amp.
