Green Lasers

There has been an increase in people buying green lasers that are more powerful than the red ones that people use in presentations
or to tease their cats.
They are being used to target airplane pilots and airline pilots , by illuminating the cockpits
that could temporarily blind pilots.
The green lasers are sold as something to point out planets or stars at night.
But nefarious assholes like this one, as usual found a more illicit use for them.

It doesn't take a genius to understand that targeting a pilot flying at night could conceivably
be blinded by this more powerful laser creating a scenario for a disaster.
Especially if the pilot is on approach for landing.

Well in the Portland Oregon area there seemed to be an individual that took great joy in painting cockpits with his green laser.

This is how they caught Stephen Francis Bukucs, 39-year-old private security guard.
Punishment could be five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
What a loser.

Green lasers can be very dangerous for the users, and bystanders too.

I used one I borrowed from work for some surveying of the property line in the woods behind my house, but I also borrowed the proper laser-safe goggles, and warned my neighbors to stay inside and don't even look towards the woods!

It's hard to believe that some web sites sell powerful green lasers, but they do. I won't post the names of the websites I know about, because I don't recommend anybody use them- even a reflection off of an object pretty far away can do permanent damage to your eyes.

If you know anyone who has one, beg him to throw it in the trash, for his own safety and others'!

I think the perp was lucky it wasn't an Apache looking down at him with the night vision.
