Feel better. Yesterday I woke up to my startup hard disk on my Mac not responding. The damned thing made a few nasty clicks then just quit altogether. No disk recovery program I have even sees the partition.

I lost six weeks of email and the last two weeks of speaker orders. Yep, I should have made a back up like I normally do but between the LA Amp Show prep and leaving on vacation I just plain forgot.

Sucks, and I feel your pain (to a somewhat larger degree!).

I feel obligated to remind everyone of the importance of making a backup every day. I do it. It is an automatic scheduled process. I use an external hard drive plugged into the USB port. Crimminy, these things are almost as cheap as dirt and for the risk/pain factor it is simply the cheapest insurance around. Get something like this for around $50:

I actually use a 2TB drive and it was under $100.

Here's hoping for better days ahead with your addiction to technology!

Shit, man! I just did something this morning. In Apple Mail, there's a convenient command: Archive. It moves mail you've read into the Archive folder, and then you can deal with it later, move it offline or whatever. I Archive all my old email for years, because it's so easy so search.

This morning I was IN my Archive folder, selected all messages from October, and THEN chose the Archive command.

What do you think happens when you archive archived messages? Evidently, they vanish without a fucking trace.

I feel obligated - as an industrial computer programmer- to tell you that code is cr@p and will crash eventually.

computers - were about up to the standards of automobiles in the 1930's

think about it - how many generations of your family have owned a computer (me - 3 haha - were old timer programmers in my family - remember the vax?)
it really is a journey, and you just cant farm out the battle wounds

I've never gotten into the habit of using the archive command. Now I am glad I haven't - that is just horrific - and it's exactly the kind of thing I would inadvertently do... YIKES!

Things happen. It must be freeQie Wednesday. My Outlook calendar went nuts today. It was a little broken. I ran the evil MS SCANPST.EXE and the "fixed" it. If fixed the calendar so it didn't exist. Flipping MS the bird. I archived today's email and restored to yesterday evening's file. Then I brought today's email back. Worked out OK. Had to re-enter a few appointments from this afternoon. Frustrating. Not awful.

I just got one of my three 1TB drives updated/upgraded, and working. Jeezus, I hate that I have to play computer tech for myself when I'm used to charging people for this after so many years in the biz.

Tomorrow a new 1TB internal and a Firewire 800 external 1TB (maybe 2TB would be better) will be ordered so I can get the backups going properly.

Cherry head cab? Uh...fresh out of amp chassis for a cherry head cab. What does it fit?
