Another great Dumble box! Mad Pro Little green wonder clip.

Post by tag101 »

This guy has really lost his mind! If I had found these boxes years ago, I doubt I would have ever bought a single Dumble style amp. Bad recording, but check out this single take with the Mad Professor Little green wonder overdrive. Sooo close! Like 183s presence knob, you can get it as smooth as glass, or juicy and thick with harmonics depending on how you set the "body" control. The HW version is better than the PCB, Mcdaddy and I A/bd them. Worth the extra $$ for sure. Amazing how even in a little pedal, you can hear the difference with the little additional hand wiring.

In person, its about as close as one could get. Great D tones for very little $$$.
VERY GOOD VERY GOOD!

Sounds good.

I wonder why Mad Professor has so many boxes that seem to do the same thing or is it that he keeps improving old boxes and renames them?

Thanks for posting. That's a nice recording. The effects on the guitar sound great. It sounds a little sloppy in the bass to my ear.

Do you work for this guy? :P Still not payin $300 bucks for a few transistors or op amps.

And here we go...Politician one more time...A one and a two . . . Just have to yank your chain in light of the history. :P

Very nice sounding clip.
I also think the bass is a bit wooly. Mids and high end sound great.
What effects? Roommate?

I listened to the Politician clip again when I had the time to listen.

It's almost like an anthology of Tag.

Finally turned the Reverb down!!:D
You got the lick down.

I liked the tone better on the intro / solo, than the guitar on the verses.

I guess that doesn't really matter much in the scheme of things.

Thanks for checking it out guys, and glad you seemed to like it for the most part. Tough crowd here. The boxes are different for sure. I am adjusting them to sound similar, and they can be, but there are still some big differences. The Sky blue is more adjustable, harder to dial in, but probably the better of the two pedals. (Although I REALLY like them both) I also have a Golden cello by him that is WAY different, and while fun to mess with, is nothing I would really use seriously. WAY to compressed and to much gain, but that is what he was going for with that one. I also played the "sweet honey overdrive" or something like that, and while it was nice, it was a VERY light overdrive. The Blue sky and Little green wonder can give a huge variety of tones, not just Dumble like, which is totally amazing to me. The shift in the mids (Z knob) and highs (texture) you get withe the Blue sky can make it sound like 2-3 totally different pedals.

In the clip I used the Trex roomate in the loop of the Quinn 6L6 183, and then added a bit of delay with the Roland BR 900. Having the reverb feed into the delay, and not the other way around is hurting the tone for sure. I think that is what is killing the recording quality as well. I have not played that song in a long time, and am glad I could remember the solo I made up using a few important Ford licks from his version. I picked the lines I did because they are where I hear a lot of the special "Fords blue line Dumble tones". Way to lazy at this age to transcribe the entire thing note for note. :x What strikes me now listening to the Ford version, is how much digital verb and delay he used. It sounded like very little way back when.
