No disrespect Stoner, but a high gain amp tube amp is a tricky thing to pull off and definately not something you should attempt as a first project. It won't work, trust me. For the kind of sound you are looking for you might actually be better off with a solid state amp or a normal rock amp with some heavy distortion box in front of it.

kt66, thanks for the input, i will take your advice, as thats mainly what i was looking for.
can i try and rephrase for fun?
i just want a super fun project, that will end up being usefull and distinct, in its tones and applications.
i already have a l-5 lab series head and a randall rg 150 es, for the solid state end of the deal, with stomp box's, eq's noise gates and other fun pedals.

is it far more easy to build a solid state amp than a tube.

what would you recomend by way of the beginer amp enthusiast, and i work in the technical field, so i have a ripcord of engineers to get my back.

i don't know whats the right match for me (blues, metal guy)
any suggestions.

How about a Marshall plexi clone. If you go over to http://www.metroamp.com/ and sign up for the forum you can learn a ton on how to take one of his kits and add gain stages ect. for a more metal amp.

The JTM45 was the first Marshall and it was derived directly from the Fender Bassman but used parts readily available in the UK. Plexis are the era of Marshall amps that used a plexiglass faceplate. Hope that helps and anyone who knows more of the specifics can correct me if I'm wrong.

You might consider a JCM-800/2204 for the classic, in yer face, balls to the wall rock tone (e.g., Wylde, Slash, etc...). This "feels" closer to the tone that you desire based on your description. Many different "tried and true mods are available for this circuit that should be easily implemented if built PTP/turret or eyelet board style.

There are numerous vendors that sell the fully populated board which would reduce "first build tensions" and increase the odds of success.

Throw in a foot switchable relay for high gain mode and a power scaling circuit and you would have a very stage friendly rig suitable for many venue sizes.

If you don't already know, could probably buy an original for less $ than building your own. But...it would be a PCB based unit which is much less mod friendly. Not to mention missing out on all of the fun and satisfaction of building your own home grown tube amp!

if i build the plexi kit from metro, would i be able to easily install the topfuel jcm circuit at a later date if i cannot live with what i get?

where does everyone stand on point to point wiring.
i just read that two amps wired point to point,the exact same way, get two completely different tones?
with this being said it seems like theres a wire lengths and component placement hurdle to overcome, right?

i am stoked about setting up a circuit, or doing the work, i think i'll only be happy with the outcome, if i do it all.
i like to struggle.

i even found an amp made for riffing stoner rock, greenamps, they look well built, i want the chrome handles rackmount style coming outa the front of my shit too, i don't know what they sound like but i'll take a mile of that green tolex.

Hey, I have an I dea for you Stoner : Why don't you clone Orange amps, but make them a different color. Then you could go on amp builder forums and pretend you want to build an amp and after a post or 2 drop the name of your amp company to promote it. Heres a good tip though, don't write the word "stoner" all over your amp and then use that as a screen name. On second thought , that is a stupid idea, only a real fuckwad would do that
