Louisville. Hello, middle of the continent

Post by xtian »

I'm headed to Louisville Friday-Monday for a cousin's wedding. What's not-to-be-missed for a gear head like me?

Bourbon. Not kidding about it. They take their bourbon very seriously.

Beautiful place. Can't say too much for any local shops, because I've only been to a handful and didn't see anything particularly interesting. They do have a GC.

I've spent some time there, and haven't found any boutique amp stores - they do have a local chain called Guitar Emporium that's OK. And of course GC.

My favorite place in Louisville is Main Street (downtown) - they have a tasty place for BBQ and beer called the Bluegrass Brewing Company (near the baseball park), and a nice riverfront park by the freeway.

There's also the usual collection of stores and coffee shops you'll find in most downtowns these days, and a trolley bus to take you up and down Main Street.

About 10 blocks away is the Louisville Slugger factory, which brings back a lot of memories for me, since I first went there when I was about 7 years old, and still have the little bat they gave away to people on the tours :)

Willcutt in Lexington isn't a far drive(hour & 1/2), but check their site to see what goodies are there first. Or call...

Other than that, I echo what Phil_S said. BOURBON! Tour Maker's Mark or Woodford and git you a sip or two... There's guitars and amps every where

Booze and BBQ! Thanks, guys. Really couldn't ask for more.

Google says 1.2 miles to Bluegrass Brewing! Half mile to Guitar Emporium!

Went there once on advertising business. Tobacco companies. Probably should avoid them.

The breakfast buffet at the top of the Galt House is pretty nice. A bit spendy, but the view can be really pretty this time of year.

I am on a PLANE (and it is very brown down there, east of the Sierras). I'm paying $8 to browse TAG at what feels like 150bps, and you fools are talking about PayPal call centers and vaporware deleted posts. Come ON!

You could have instead wasted your money on a drink. Bummer...

They had a Halloween parade down Bardstown Road today in our honor. So hospitable!
