Orange shield lead on PT

Post by Smokebreak »

Im installing a Hammond 290DX, and I know that I'm to ground it(or not), but what does it "do" and if it's so important (or even useful)why don't all PTs employ them?

Also, any particular grounding point better than another? I was just gonna stick it with the other center taps at the chassis

One of my MM Bassman trannies has one. I believe it helps reduce noise, etc. I grounded it with the CTs. That amp is a particularly quiet one. I'm not saying it's because of it, just sayin. :)

I have ordered them on custom winds from Heyboer; internal shield and copper flux band it costs a few $ more. So if one is trying to make them cheap as possible and save every penny, ommitting the band would be to save money.

The orange lead the only lead that I will terminate to a PT mounting bolt, but I have terminated it to the CT as well.
