Fender Tweed Pro 5e5a Schematic Error?

Post by mjg »

I searched but couldn't find a thread for this. I was looking at the Fender Tweed 5e5a schematics that are floating around, and noticed what I think is an error:

The diode in the negative bias power supply (between the 10K and 56K resistors looks to me to be backward.

Could someone sanity check me?

Here is a link to one:

Am I missing something?

Looks backwards. However, the symbol is like that on some of their other schematics as well (eg: 5E6-A) though the indicated polarity is correct. The 5F6 drawing has it right, polarity and symbol.

Thanks

Thanks for verifying my sanity (on this subject, anyway). I just found it hard to believe that this mistake could be made by Fender, and that I couldn't find the topic in my search.

Thanks again.

Did you say Fender make a mistake? You mean like factory wiring errors or faulty solder joints? Never once until those pesky guys over at CBS bought 'em out!

There was apparently some confusion at Fender with regard to the schematic symbol in early '55. These are selenium rectifiers, in Fender's earliest fixed-bias amps... New technology for them, I guess. The layouts always seem to show them wired correctly, though.
