low voltage amp designs?
Hi guys. I realize this is kind of off topic, but I trust you guys. I'm thinking of building a low voltage amp (5w? 15w? switchable?), maybe volume and tone control only. Anyone had any experience or any ideas where I can get some...er...ideas? I did some work on a customer's Valve Jr and thought it might be fun to build something along these lines.
Anyhow, again, sorry for being off topic
Mark.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
You mean low wattage, I think? With only a couple of controls I gather you're not looking to do a low-watt Dumble-type. What you describe is something like a Champ.
Re: low voltage amp designs?
Yes, I think he wants a simple SE EL34/6L6 amp with a triode/pentode switch.
That's all.
Oh, and I'll move this thread on another section of the forum.

Very nice single ended d-style amp documented here:

Re: low voltage amp designs?
Sorry guys
Long day
Yes, a low wattage amp. I probably need to do more research, but something with a single 6L6 or EL84 or something at the output.... I'm still trying to define this, but something simple.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
Well, I am looking for a low VOLTAGE amp, because I have this Japanese PT with 135vac secondary.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
Re: low voltage amp designs?
I just finished building this amp this wkend. Probably around 7 watts?
I am very happy with it. Very smooth overdrive to my ears.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
I've built several 6BM8 amps that are around 7-9 watts and like them a lot. In fact, I prefer the 6BM8 pentode over an EL84.
I have not built this particular amp with 6BM8's but I think it would work out just fine.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
And ........ after reading what the guys did with a "mini-Wreck" here:
https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... =miniwreck
I thought the sound clips of the 6SN7 push/pull Wreck were excellent.
I have wondered how a mini-D'styled Tweed Overdrive Special would sound at 2 watts?
I liked the Tweed Overdrive Special so the idea of a simplified very low wattage D-inspired amp intrigues me.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
Thanks for the schematics. I was reading some of your input on the post link someone added above... Man, there's a lot out there! I guess I need to define what I want and start experimenting with some of these ideas. Lots of great input.

Re: low voltage amp designs?
Check also the threads on Eagle Supre - SE, low wattage (depending on your selection of output tube).

Re: low voltage amp designs?
Speaking of low-wattage amps, have you guys checked out the Slash signature SL-5, Marshall debuted at NAMM this year? It's 5W/1W SE with EL34, ripe for a reverse engineering job
But not sure if it is ok to discuss current production amps here, so I will await the moderator's comment.
