Breaks my heart to think this one was one dog-catcher away from being euthanized.
Chuang Tzu was a rescue. People see a cute dog and don't have a clue about how to raise a dog. If you can't raise a dog, you're probably not ready for a kid. There are certain breeds you really need to be an experienced dog owner for. Chow's can certainly end up owning you. I know this from experience.

If you're at all in doubt of your dog raising abilities, get some kind of hound. They don't have a mean bone in their bodies. They like to talk, though. You'll have to put up with that. IMO.

2 of my 3 are rescues. We volunteer at the Humane Society as dog walkers. It's tough not to bring them all home....... So many good dogs that need good homes.

Forgot to wish Chuang Tzu a Happy Birthday! He's a lucky dude!

Lefty - yes they are from the same litter. Our girls are a lot of fun, but a lot of work. Border Collies are always working you. Having two has been great because they keep each other occupied. One alone would probably be very hard to manage.

My two best friends, Roy Munson at 8 months and Nigel Tufnel. Roy's 10 months old now and his back is 37"'s high and makes the Newfie look small. And yeah we go through about 15 pounds of food a week.

Our bordie collies can spell too. I have conducted some blind tests to see if they were reading body language and situations, but they aren't. They really can understand many spelled words. It's like having toddlers around.

After the tragic loss of my wife's little Ginger (mini Dachshund) she felt the courage to start looking for a new breeder to find a new little girl.
About a month ago she found the breeder she was led to.

Her name is Breezy and she is 8 weeks old.

Our mixed breed boy (Shadow) isn't quite sure what to make of this new resident yet.

But I'm sure he will come around and play with her eventually.

Happy birthday, Chuang Tzu!

I've owned a lot of dogs over the years, but I was at the point, "Another dog thread. Nothing to contribute here, Move on." Then back in March my son adopted a boxer pup. Neither my wife nor I had any experience with boxers, so we're scratching our heads. My son works and goes to school, so we dog sit a lot, and the little goober below has stolen our hearts, and made us throw out any rule book we had on what a dog could do at our house.

He has a hang dog face, but his personality just fills any space with joy. He loves all people and dogs, so much that his stubby little tail will one day go so fast he takes off like a helicopter. We're contemplating a move to CO, and already planning how we can kidnap Rufus and take him with us. My son has assured us this will not happen.

You can see where he just had a benign tumor removed.
