Is there a model number on those trays?
Re: Cheap way to make a turretboard
I assume that is the manufacturer MSDS? Sigma-Aldrich has a very thorough MSDS databse. I do most of my MSDS research on their site if I can.MGW wrote:Not to pick a fight, but I'd love to see your documentation on the carcinogenic properties of FR4. The MSDS on the stuff seems to indicate that it is more a nuisance than anything else.

If you enter the CAS number from the above MSDS/PDF (65997-17-3) into the Sigma-Aldrich database you come up with "Glass Spheres" - physical appearance "fibers". IARC Class 2A - Probably Carcinogenic to Humans. It is listed as a Carcinogen according to OSHA. It is also listed as a Mutagen.

Any kinda dust is bad in your lungs.Unfortunately I work in dusty conditions all the time and I can't wear a respirator all the time.
Re: Cheap way to make a turretboard
Despite the CAS number being for Fiberglass wool, the datasheet is for **SILICA** spheres (There is concern over the potential carcinogenicity of respirable SILICA and other refractory fibres).AL wrote:I assume that is the manufacturer MSDS? HOWEVER
Glass fibres are NOT silica fibres and do not present the same hazards. On the same site is a MSDS for glass wool:

Counter to the insinuation in your post, the manufacturer is probably the best source of information:
PPG:

OCF:

Yes, I work(ed) for a glass company (neither of the above) in an OHS role - It irks me that mis-information and conspiracy theories propagate more readily than scientific fact: Glass fibres are not considered carcinogenic. The main hazard of working with them is 'nuisance dust' causing skin & respitatory tract irritation.
But wear a good dust mask, anyway.

I've breathed plenty of fiberglass particles.Carcinaginec or not I wouldn't recomend it.
