I had a gibson GA 19 RVT falcon go across my bench, pretty good shape.
It had of coarse 6eu7 and not 12ax7... I was wondering if any have had the chance to try out current production 6eu7. They seem a bit pricey, are they worth it?

Andy, I realize someone of your expertise already knows the 6EU7 and 12AX7 are functionally equivalent with a different pin out. I think this may come down to whether you can "violate" this amp by rewiring the socket or if you really have to find a 6EU7.

I realize it may be a poor business practice to use eBay as a source, but you might be able to get a very nice old production 6EU7 there for a reasonable price -- or maybe for not such a reasonable price.

I perceive this as a low risk purchase. You may see it differently.

You can find NOS 6eu7's for cheap.If you don't mind to search. I got a sleeve of RCA's of ebay for less than $10 a tube

oh ya the fellow wants to keep it original, we've since found an old radio guy who has a stash, always good to network locally, I was surprised to find new 6eu7... I really like how that falcon was executed too, very clean wire dress and parts strip... the one real drawback seems to be the primitive tone control in it, sucks away too much of the volume and gain. Hopefully I'll have the chance throw money at at some current production tubes, every now and again theres a surprise.

Couple of years ago one of my customers let me have my way with his Falcon. Liked it so much after fixin' it proper-like, he had me do 2 more just like it. Yes, without that tone sucking circuit, the Falcon (and other Gibsons) can roar! Going to GZ34 rectifier and choke-filtered hi voltage supply didn't hurt either. Left 'em self biased. Too much improvement & it will shake right out of the box.
