I was moving some gear around in my stairway closet. Pulling out some old girlfriends and such. Unfortunately did a head count and realize I have 18 damn guitars. How did that happen. What do I cull. Can't sell the es125 I have owned since I was an 8 year old boy. My parents believed in me. Can't sell either of the 1982 Fullerton Strats i have enjoyed since 1982. I could probably sell the 1959 jr I recently bought. It sounds amazing but I don't like the way it feels. I have a PRS that goes to every gig_nope it is a keeper.
I could sell the epi 57 reissue jr. I have a 74 bastard strat I could let go. I have a late 80s les paul that would be hard to let go of but I don't gig with it. Old Dano for slide that nothing sounds better to me. Then there is the 60 Tele Custom. Old refinish but man the guitar is cool. I could sell a home built Tele from a g&l body that I built but why? I am pretty atteched to my 4 acoustics. There is the Arbor Les Paul copy that is the best damn playing guitar. Especially for a beach gig. There is a PRS copy a friend made that was built from a dining room table he pulled off the beach after Ike. I resonates like nothing I have heard. What's a man to do? I have a great wife.

Never sell gear. Never. Ever.

If you don't play a particular guitar, there is a reason why you don't play it. If you sell it, it's gone. And the reason you didn't play it is gone too. Now you're stuck with a real dilemma, the guitar is gone but there is no reason to NOT play it anymore ..... and thus there will be yearning for that dearly departed guitar. It is better to have a guitar you don't want to play, than to desire to play a guitar you don't have. Thus logic dictates to always acquire guitars, and never part with them.

I let a '65 Melody Maker that I had for 36 years get away from me about 9 years ago. I would never play it; it was in serious need - switch, pots, and the frets were the worst kind of worn out. But I do miss it.

If you've got the room, keep 'em.

I used to be able to make a list, but the economy has rendered me able to use less than 1 hand. I am not amused.

That's one reason I started building my own amps, to be able to try different interesting amps and have the satisfaction of making it myself. I find soldering very zen, right up until I make a mistake and start cursing like a stevedore. For me, zen is a fleeting concept.
