I recently acquired an ampeg v4, from about 1976, with distortion control. With a bit of work I got it up and running nice, sounds great, huge tone controls. Just wondering if my distortion is working properly. I know that it's not supposed to be a great sounding distortion, more of a fuzz. It definitely distorts, but sounds kind of half distorted. You can hear both a clean and distorted tone at the same time. Is this normal? Or do I possibly have a diode bad?
Thanks
Andy

Re: Anyone have an ampeg distortion v4?
Ampeg's built in distortion also found in mid-late 70's VT-40 and V2, always sounded naff to me. Maybe naff isn't strong enough, change that to just 'orrible.
Easy enough to open 'er up and check the diode. Or just ignore that channel entirely.
