P90 Pickup question.

Post by HeeBGB »

I have a 50's soapbar P90 that I would like to put in my junior which has a dogear in it. Are there any adapter plates available for this or would I have to make something up custom. There is a Wolfetone mean wind in there now and I love it but I want to hear what the real 50's PUP sounds like.

Sorry about the horrible pics Still trying to learn how to use the new DSLR!

I'm not sure how you would do that. I would not change out that old base plate.
Couldn't find photos of my old Junior P90 PU, only one of the '56 P90,
but this does show the fixing lugs "ears" which seem to be level with the upturn on the long sides.

For a test run I would fit it naked as is + use the dogear cover plus some packing to hold it in place, then take it from there.
I notice quite a difference between the 50s and 60s era - from my limited experience. Both great, but different.

Yeah the soap bars have the mounting screws in the middle of the pickup.

And of course the dog ears have outside mounting tabs. (dog ears)

You can mount the soap bar in there but the notches for the dog ears will show unless you can put the dog ear cover on the soap bar PU.

Seems like someone would made some kind of conversion for this.

How about the base plate?
Would it be easy to switch those?
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

I was looking at it. I think I am going to pay my brother a visit. He has a bridgeport and a lathe in his garage. I will just see if I can make an adapter plate that will mount to the existing screws that hold the soapbar baseplate on. Shouldn't be too hard.

I was just hoping somebody already did it and made it commercially available.

Just put foam behind it and screw down the dogears on the cover.
I've got blisters on my fingers!
