Review: Joyo JP-02 Pedal board power supply!

Post by HeeBGB »

OK so I have a Gator small pedal board gig bag carrier. It came with a Gator power supply. Problem with the Gator PS was that it was not isolated outputs so you could only plug in pedals that are tip negative.

In any case I found myself needing something that has isolated outs. The VooDoo Lab stuff is all over $100. I just didn't want to spend that much at this time. So I took a chance on the Joyo JP-02.

I have had it for a couple of weeks now and the outs are in fact isolated. I have multipe pedals plugged into it of opposite polarity and it works great so far and was under $70 shipped. It has blue LED's that you can turn off if you don't need them. They will light up your pedal board if needed. I have mine velcro'd to the bottom of my board so they are obviously off.

Only complaint is that for pedals that are tip positive you have to use an adapter cable in conjunction with a regular cable. This is not the problem but the problem is that they only include 2 of the adapter cables.

Anyway, if you need a PS that has isolated outs the Joyo is a decent option at a lower cost.

Thanks for the update, I have been peeping these for awhile and thinking he price was too good to be true for iso outputs. I'm going to gove one try now.

Pedaltrain has imitators, but none better, I think:

I installed an IEC plug for power, and soldered it to a power strip, tucked into the underside of the pedalboard. Even with the JOYO power, I still have to plug in a damn AC-AC transformer for my Line 6 M9.

Order of effects:

1 Wah -
2 Compressor -
3 Overdrive -
4 EQ -
5 Pitch -
6 Modulation -
7 Level -
8 Echo -

But people find that they can change this order of effects so don't be afraid to experiment. :)

For the four units you've listed, ,y preference is Compressor, OD, Wah, Reverb. A lot of folks like the sound of the Wah before the OD (apparently, this is what Hendrix did) but it doesn't work for my setup and my ears.

The thing that bothers me about the Joyo unit is the wall wart.

Don't most pedal supplies have the transformer in the box?

Hey, I'm cheap, I still use a One Spot.

BTW, the CoolCat Chorus (not too bad) was replaced by the TC Corona Chorus.

Tom, power supply gotta have a transformer, inside the box or out, right? Here's the Joyo under my board, with it's transformer atop the board plugged into that tan outlet. Line 6 transformer also tucked up under there with velcro and zip ties.

Well, I wish this thread had been posted a few days earlier. I just ordered a pedal power supply PCB from Jack Orman. Even assigning a value to my time of zero, it's hard to see how I'll be able to produce a completed build with the wall wart and all of those cables for significantly less than it would cost to buy one of these Joyo units.
