I just noticed this on their website. I have a 270FX which is rated at 150mA, right on the box. Now the website says 173mA.
Is this very recent or have I just been dozing lately?
Hammond increased their PT HT current ratings 15%

Everyone always says Hammonds are built tough. They always seemed husky for their rating. I wonder were they stand now, if, for example, on yours 173ma is now max or close to it, or if there is still some good leeway left? Or if they actually upgraded the PTs?David Root wrote:I just noticed this on their website. I have a 270FX which is rated at 150mA, right on the box. Now the website says 173mA.

I'll assume it's the old PTs and there is less leeway so thanks for the important heads up.
Why can't people just leave a good known product alone?

Let's hope it doesn't have anything to do with this from today's NY Times:
“When I went out there, I was expecting to see guys on camels, pulling on copper cables,” Mr. Hecker told the authors. Instead, he saw miles of trenches that had been dug by teams with excavating machines — evidence of what he called “a major industrial enterprise,” which dug up miles of irradiated copper cable and sold it to Chinese dealers.

If your transformer feels warm although detached from a power source...
Shades of cobalt 60 in Mexican iron and "hot" gold jewelry back in the 80's.
But seriously now, the Hammond claims could simply be "specsmanship", same old product, perhaps a higher-temp rated insulation. Amp companies used to do it all the time, & likely still do. Claim more wattage, just don't specify what distortion level that wattage is measured at.
Bigger tailfins, more chrome.

Hammond switched the current specs from DC after rectification to AC.

I stand corrected. Same tailfins, same chrome. Bigger number. Let's all keep this in mind when designing gear & spec'ing iron. Thanks mimungr!mimungr wrote:Hammond switched the current specs from DC after rectification to AC.

I also suspect they just changed the way they rate them.
