I just noticed this on their website. I have a 270FX which is rated at 150mA, right on the box. Now the website says 173mA.

Is this very recent or have I just been dozing lately?

Everyone always says Hammonds are built tough. They always seemed husky for their rating. I wonder were they stand now, if, for example, on yours 173ma is now max or close to it, or if there is still some good leeway left? Or if they actually upgraded the PTs?

I'll assume it's the old PTs and there is less leeway so thanks for the important heads up.

Why can't people just leave a good known product alone?

Let's hope it doesn't have anything to do with this from today's NY Times:

Shades of cobalt 60 in Mexican iron and "hot" gold jewelry back in the 80's.

But seriously now, the Hammond claims could simply be "specsmanship", same old product, perhaps a higher-temp rated insulation. Amp companies used to do it all the time, & likely still do. Claim more wattage, just don't specify what distortion level that wattage is measured at.

I stand corrected. Same tailfins, same chrome. Bigger number. Let's all keep this in mind when designing gear & spec'ing iron. Thanks mimungr!
