New build in progress: Brownnote High Voltage D'lite
Started a new build on a Brownnote DLite chassis. What makes this one different, a high voltage MusicMan style power supply. Its been a while since I've done a build in this chassis and had become spoiled using mostly PCB boards and the CE chassis.
No pics worth showing show far, I'll post pics a bit further in the build.
Power Supply: 700V plates, 350 screens aka MM style
Preamp topology: low plates and skyliner tonestack
Pwr Tubes: JJ KT77
Iron: custom wound by Heyboer

I wish I had bought more than one chassis from that guy. I got mine from the very first batch that he offered for sale.

I'll be watching this one.
One of my favorite amps is a converted Music Man RD 50.

Re: New build in progress: Brownnote High Voltage D'lite
Punched the bias/HV and main power eyelet boards, then mocked up parts fitment. Room is tight, so I might have to omit the regulated relay power board and power the relays straight from the 6.3V winding.
Not much chassis prep to do other than drill choke, relays and OT mounting holes.

You could use the relay power supply boards colossal sells and if he doesn't have any I do.

Looking good TM
Too bad you couldn't make the Bias/HT board smaller and mount your
regulated relay power board next to it. You could even drill out the bias hole to add a buffered loop..

Darin, in the past I've build these with a 3 function board along that wall and my first board layout was this type. This chassis has the integral standoffs which I dont prefer. The last one I built, I pinched all those functions on the same type of chassis and it was a PITA because the chassis screws will interfere with the board. Whereas, the earlier chassis you could mount the boards flush with a backer and with careful planning you can work around screws passing through.dcribbs1412 wrote:Looking good TM

I can make the existing pcb I have work, but Dave's narrow relay supply board would be even better. I'm not fan of the built in loop, but Moss had a good thing going with these chassis and he even had a 19" 100W chassis with the integral loop in the works.

Finally got around to punching the preamp board and drilling holes in the chassis for the choke.

That cap board looks like the PCB version I have but never did have the wiring diagram for it do you have that?
Re: New build in progress: Brownnote High Voltage D'lite
This is my standard MM supply cap board, I just scaled it to fit the BN chassis. What exact PCB do you have?M Fowler wrote:That cap board looks like the PCB version I have but never did have the wiring diagram for it do you have that?

I got if from a TAG member years ago maybe you. But when I decided to use it I had mistaken it for the CE cap board so I'm not sure about the wiring now that it is installed.

Re: New build in progress: Brownnote High Voltage D'lite
TM, are you going to run the output tubes like MM did - common grid? I was just looking at the schematic for my RD110 Fifty a few days ago. The output stage is really interesting. I took this amp to a jam many years ago, the other guitar player had a Marshall half stack, and he could not believe this tiny little combo amp was keeping up with the his volume. This output stage is loud and pretty clean....

Mark, I picked up a couple of those as well. They are unlike a CE or Funk( aka Dumble style ) board that has the 8 terminations. That board has the standby before the mains filter, thus only having 6 terminations. I mounted a daughter eyelet board under it so I could use it like a CE.M Fowler wrote:I got if from a TAG member years ago maybe you. From memory: leftmost terminals 1,2,3 are tied together and as follows; from standby, OT, choke input, terminal is the 4 screen ground and terminals 5&6 are choke output and screen supply.
The scheme is HV rectifier>standby switch> power board

Re: New build in progress: Brownnote High Voltage D'lite
None of the MM complex funkiness, using the split rail supply to feed the plates and screens just like HAD.JazzGuitarGimp wrote:TM, are you going to run the output tubes like MM did - common grid?
