Hello all, first post here.
I'm in the market for a dumble clone and I'm lost. I can't make up my mind between an SSS and a ODS. I am a huge SRV fan and I love the sounds he was able to coax out of his SSS. I was wondering if the any of the ODS circuits can get those cleans. Also, I am a huge fan of the overdrive of the ODS. Is there any way to get these singing lead tones out of an SSS? Also, I am quite confused by all the ODS revisions on the market. Is there someplace that has all the different revisions and their differences? One more thing, is the Ultra Phonix mod something completely different from the SSS and the ODS?
Thanks
PS: I don't know if a question like this is allowed, but when all is said and done, what would be the best way to enter Dumble land with a budget of around $2K?

I would suggest you start here, but right off the top of my head of need two different amps. Also, look in the files section.

UltraPhonix is neither SSS or ODS
There's cheapest and better.....pick one. If you are talking cabinet and amp head, 2K is getting you started.

SSS and an ODS (clean channel) are very different beasts!!I was wondering if the any of the ODS circuits can get those cleans
Especially with how they feel!.. I too am a big SRV fan and play in bands that cover much of his material...My 100w 2nd generation (clean channel) does the best for me at covering the Stevie stuff..Does it sound and feel exactly like a Blackface Vibroverb or a Super of coarse not But a 2nd gen and a nice Tube Screamer and you will get by just fine.. If your looking to nail the later stuff exactly when he was using the SSS well the SSS is the obvious choice..
If you don't care for the Overdrive in the 2nd gen amps and like more of the later OD tones then the Classic would be the next one on the list since they have a similar (low plate) clean channel and a tone stack similar to that of a Fender (100k slope .047 mid cap) for sweeter mids (like a Fender)and the later 220k OD trimmer (for a slightly thicker OD tone)..Once again will do just fine
If you don't use much overdrive and play mostly clean and like to use pedals the SSS is a wonderful amp for this (if built correctly)..It has glassy cleans and plenty of 2nd order harmonics (chime) very responsive and articulate amp and plenty of low end..AWESOME with a good sounding Strat or Tele!!!!
Choose wisely my son
Here is a (low quality)clip of my SSS with a Strat playing some Stevie..Or should I say trying to play some SRV..LOL!!
