Yes it's nice to have reverb but he was very enthusiastic about it because lacking the reverb, it had a bit clearer tone with fewer stages for the signal to pass thru. Vibrato blinky light same as all the other blackies, nothing to complain about, at least with his. It was @ 20 years ago, seems like yesterday.
Not all blackies... My '66 Princeton's bias goes wiggle wiggle with a light bulb, not a cockroach. Just built a brown Vibroverb in my old 5B6 chassis too, minus the verb. I do still want an old Fender with the 4 or 4 1/2 stage harmonic trem, though. :D I refuse to build one of those.

Sho' nuff and yes you're right, Deluxe on up for the blinky light. I should'a been more pacific.

I've had a listen to lots of brownie/whitie Super or Concert swoosh vibratos. They are highly variable amp to amp, and I've seen all sorts of component values used. I think Fender was on to something good, and unique, but was flailing around trying to get it right. 4 or 5 triodes used, depending. Must have been vexing because Magnatone had their special vib/trem. If you dialed the Fender up too far, thump thump... can't be comfortable for the output tubes, transformer, and speaker cones get slapped around something awful. Yet they survive.

Did build the brownie vib/trem into a Deluxe Rev. for that same client who found the non rev deeluxe. He wanted the choice of color so we went for it. Turned out OK.

 Special FX alert. Try this. Y cord into one of those swoosh vibrato amps, and another that has none. Get a good balance without the vib on, get your head right in between the amps stereo style then switch on the vib. You're gonna like it! Poor man's Leslie rig. So don't refuse, break out the soldering iron and do what you know you must do. Eventually. ;)

Yeah I love the brown amp vibrato. When I bought my vibroverb back in the day I was downsizing from my huge stereo boogie rack monstrosity and looking for a 2-10 combo. The guy I went to had 2 amps that fit the bill; A K&M bandmaster combo prototype with all the good stuff, vintage jensens, tube rectifier etc. and the vibroverb reissue.

He said I could have either one for $700. I honestly couldn't decide and was wearing the guys patience I think going back and forth. Finally dimed them and put on the tremelo and had to give the nod to the brown amp, printed circuit board, solid state rectifier and all. All because of that tremelo...

Fender 160PS - suggestions?

Post by VacuumVoodoo »

So I bought this on a whim, mainly for it's class B2 PA with massive iron and a 6V6GTA driven transformer PI. The amp has two original rugged 6550A power tubes. 150W clean output.
So what to do with it? There's room enough for something one-offish, wild and perhaps even playable...700V to OT CT - tasty!
I'm open to suggestions - the long and dark winter will soon be here..

DANG! Looks like the 300PS and 400PS have a long lost relative. Whatever you do, the winter will be long, dark, and LOUD. You come up with the most uniquest stuff VV. Keep up the good work!

Worn out

If you see anything that needs a better look tell me what. All you see is for sale except for the Marshall, don't be shy.

Concert. One of the brownies is a 3x10 Bandmaster, there is a brown Concert as well. A super clean brown Pro some other similar amps. There is a reissue brown reverb that will be a gift to the buyer on the brown pro, reverb still in box unused.

There is a 53 or early 4 TV Deluxe amp. A couple BF Deluxes, a couple similar Deluxe Reverbs, a couple tweedy Deluxes, a recovered 4x10 Bassman a couple Super Reverbs.. I am blown out tired and forgetting much of the details that all kind of run together in a stream of sleepy idiocy.

The BR6 looks awfully clean. I don't suppose there's a matching guitar in there? That would be a find.

Wow, I'm just getting the scope of this. I used to have a guy who would have bought the whole room (now he's selling too cheap - '59 Bassman $2500-). This stuff needs to sell East Coast or West Coast or Nashville. I'm in awe.

It's an overwhelming thought. Between my friend and I there are something over 300 pieces to find new homes. I have not been in the trading business in around 20 years. Lots of new assholes to meet and.. hate.
