Upholestery Stapler

Post by amplifiednation »

I was walking my dogs early this morning and was trying to figure out what I contribute today.

This is a Bostitch upholstery stapler I got last winter. I've been cutting tolex and reapplying grille cloth for years, but always I swore I didn't want one of these because it would be too hard to remove a misfire.

I was doing these big Dumble style 4x12's and stapling piping from the inside (Marshall style) and I finally broke...

So I got this Bostitch 21671B for like $100....and it changed my world. If you are applying cloth without a pneumatic stapler I would strongly recommend upgrading to something like this. There are actually fewer misfires because your hand doesn't have to make a big motion (staple gun) and perfectly straight piping is about 100x easier!!!

Here's what I'm working on this morning, you can see how I used the staples to hold the suede in place on the back panel, and how nicely the cloth is applied.

Pneumatic is the way to go!!

Cheers,
Taylor

The Porter Cable us58 is a good one too. I use the german liqour coated staples and stain them blackish for vintage amps. Cannot find the old silicon bronze staples any more. The little Makita Mac700 is the bomb for small quiet compressors. My friend John Mergili likes his old Doufast upholstery stapler.

Nice post, and good tip.

Hey guys, since we are talking tools.

I have about 100' of base board trim to install at my mothers house.
It's the bottom quarter round thing that goes next to the floor.

I was thinking about buying an electric brad gun to speed things up.

Any good ones that you know about?

Oh and nice cab Taylor.
Love that suede! :D

I've never used an electric one there are some nice battery/gas ones. You can an 18ga air brad nailer for cheap but if you dont have a compressor?

Depends on what yore nailin oak trim or something I'd say no.Youd problay be fine in some white pine.

You better cope them inside corners :x

I've got a bunch of nail guns, bur none of them are electric. I would borrow a compressor if you don't have one. It will make that quarter round go up in minutes, and countersink the nails

The kind that uses spray bombs to paint guitars!

Plus I don't really have room for a compressor cause my garage is filled with other shit.

But, I swear I am not a hoarder.

Tom, check the tool rental separtment of your local Home Depot. You will be able to rent what you need for a few days for a lot less less than what the tool costs.

Do not limit yourself to what others think is reasonable or possible.

No Home Depot they suk.Use a local tool rental store. If you have to.

Didn't see it was just quarter round so you don't have to cope.
