Well it does seem to be a bit of a "men's club for amps". Maybe the women are doing something more important. I could mention a few things that would invite a mud pie toss from the ladies, so I won't. Even though it may be accurate. Leave it to your imagination.

OTOH there are some wonderful female guitar/bass players. Maybe we could start a thread on that, sort of like "woman tone." Here's a couple of somewhat obscure ones that are worth your attention: Becky Barksdale, Jennifer Condos, Helen Avakian, Kristy Capolino. Listen and smile!

Well there is that, yes. How about besides "cleaning out the dead wood", think about adding some new good active members - women - given the subject has been discussed.

Think up a clever heading for the thread & get it going.

We were talkin' strings and who showed up? Dan Dawson from D'Addario. That's a good precedent.

If we start up a thread about women guitarist/bassists maybe something along the same lines will happen. And the worst that'll happen? Another enlightening amusing and informative thread. Can't lose.

Sure would be cool if any of the ones mentioned already popped in for a hello.

I did some screen scraping. We have 9964 members who have never posted, out of a total of 13536 members. Let's assume that anyone who has joined recently is in lurk-mode until they get a feel for the place (which I highly recommend when joining a new board).

If we use people who joined before 2011 and have never posted, that's 6303.

Some interesting stats:

673 - Number of people that posted exactly one time.
2899 - Number of people with greater than one post.
1406 - Number of people that have more than 10 posts.
409 - Number of people that have more than 100 posts.
45 - Number of people that have more than 1000 posts.
16 - Number of people that have more than 2000 posts.
6 - Number of people that have more than 3000 posts.
3 - Number of people that have more than 4000 posts.
2 - Number of people that have more than 5000 posts (Structo at 12418 and M Fowler at 8903).

Here's how many people have joined each year:
2005: 223
2006: 1485
2007: 1518
2008: 1813
2009: 1997
2010: 1966
2011: 1920
2012: 1676
So far this year: 970

For those who wonder how I got these stats, I wrote a program in Ruby to pull the member list, parsed the html for username, join date, and number of posts. I then dumped this into a relational database to do various queries.

Now if I could just write a program to build amps for me. Or better yet, a program that could make a living for me so I could spend all my time building amps.

I don't think it would slow things down in general, but some search queries might be affected.

I use the drop downs in the upper right hand on the Memberlist page to sort by number of posts and descending. That puts all the zero posters at the end of the list so you don't have to wade through them.

Maybe when we get to 50,000 users it might be time to revisit. At out current rate of signups, that won't occur for a couple more decades.
