Has anyone tried a EVM-12L with the d-lite 22?
I was wondering how the EVM-12L's sound. I know alot of you recommend Celestion golds or vintage 30's. Are the EVM-12L's hard to drive with 22 watts since they are rated up to 200 watts? I have seen used ones being sold all the time. They are a popular choice with Dumbles. What is a decent 12" 8Ohm speaker for the dlite22 that cost around $60.
Thanks,
Dave

I have an EVM 15L and it sounds amazing with an amp very similar to a D-Liet 22. Another good speaker is the warehousespeaker.com "Lead" speaker. It's a $21 copy of a Celestion.

FWIW; I have a friend that likes his G12 70.
I paired a reissue EVM12L with a D'Lite running JJ KT77's, which cleaned things up a bit and focused the low end a little more...the player is very happy with it.

Well I bought one of the celestion clones from warehouse speakers, I went with the vintage 30's copy. I'm curious to see how they sound. Hey, for $21.00 it's not going to break me if it sounds awful. I've read s alot of good reviews about them on ebay. Thanks, BobI for the tip.

Bob recommended the Lead 80 copy. The V30 is the worst match I have ever heard with D style amps.... Hey, but it is only 21 bucks and it may work for you! Seriously though.... Stay clear of V30.

I concur, I learned this expensive lesson myself, I do not like the v30 with this style amp.

Dlite with EVM-12L
Hello Guys;
This is my first post on the forum.
I recently built a D'Lite from Brownnote, and are currently using it with the EVM-12L in my Boogie combo.
Here is a clip; hope this helps in making a decision on which speaker to buy.
I still have to try an Alnico Gold and a G12-65 to compare.
I like the EVM, but find it a bit directional and harsh standing right in front of the speaker.

Well, I'm stuck with the vintage 30 clone. If I don't like it I'll buy the lead 80 clone and use this one for something else. I have been getting mixed reviews about the vintage 30 clone for the d-lite. It can't be any worst than the peavey speaker I'm using now:lol: I'll try to post a clip once I get it.
Nomster, thought they sounded pretty good, "I don't think there is a "best" speaker...just different flavors. Try them both and see what sounds best to your ears. I have tried a few different speaker combinations with the D'Lite and each one has its own character. One of my favorites is a Vintage 30 clone that I got for $20."

Re: Has anyone tried a EVM-12L with the d-lite 22?
I own a couple of the Warehouse Lead 80 clones. I bought them for the sole purpose of going into my amp testing cabinet - so I wouldn't fry any of my "good" speakers in the amp tweaking and testing phase. I am in the process of tweaking a 50 watt HRM and they sound very very good with it. They have also held up under some harsh chopstick incidents and extremely high SPLs. I have tried G1265, EV12L, emi RWB, Cannabis Rex.... I would rate them in about that order. I would stick those cheap CL80s right now ahead of the RWB. Nice high end for an aggressive lead voice. Makes me want to try a "real" Lead 80 with these builds. BTW I also have some Celestion Seventy 80s that sound very good. These are, I think, lower watt versions of their Lead 80.

Excellent playing JR! Great time feel and touch. The tone was not so close though. Needed more 900hz. You need the .01 midcap I keep recommending. I have no doubt that Robben has one. Shoot me a PM with what your build specs are.
