Mounting Edcors

I'm mounting a standup Edcor PT to chassis for the first time. The PT has wires coming out of both sides on the bottom. The issue is that the feet are level with the bottom of the PT, so it weeble-wobbles a bit and can't really sit flush with the top of the chassis, because of the grommets for the holes for the leads. Is it advisable to just use a nut, or a couple of nuts as standoffs between the feet and the top of the chassis? I've seen this with laydown PTs, but not with a top heavy standup.

Yes, Nuts as Standoffs sounds like a good solution.

You should have put the wire holes out a little further. I use pushin bushings instead of rubber grommets and use the smallest hole my wires will allow.

But in your case you can put some thick washers or nuts under the PT mounting feet.

Look in plumbing supplies for a pack of rubber washers. You'll find some that do a nice job and they last almost forever -- surely long enough.

Thanks for the tips. I'm using an old Callaham chassis so I kinda have to make due with some of the holes. I never thought I'd say drilling my own chassis might be easier than working with a predrilled one. These threaded inserts for the sockets and chassis mounts are pretty sweet though. I'll be looking for some pushin bushings tomorrow as my 3/8 grommets are pulling through the chassis and the 1/2" ones are too big. Grrrr

I had that issue with one of my Dynaco A-470 OTs in my Rocket and will have the same one with my other, eventually. The holes on each side sit flush with the chassis, so I didn't use grommets for either side. Hadn't really thought about suspending the OT and allotting space for grommets. Maybe next time.

As for chassis drilling, I have them punched front, back and top, then drill or step up the sizes or add holes to my convenience. Bud chassis are butter. A pair of step up bits, a titanium drill bit and a deburring tool are invaluable.

Smokebreak there is no reason to need washers. I've mounted a bunch of Edcor PTs and never had an issue as long as you properly located the drill holes for the wires. I use a rubber grommet on the ID to protect against wear. All seems to be fine for a number of Edcors I've used.

I use washers on Edcor mounts because it is not very heavy material.

Also, when confronted with predrilled chassis that present problems like your having I couldn't find the right size grommet so I used shrink wrap on the transformer wires passing through the chassis so the hole edges would not cut the transformer wires. Also, one can polish the through holes to take off the edge. I have a tool I use to deburr the holes and chassis edges.

Thanks Surfsup, I see how exact hole placement would be optimal now, but I'm dealing with a predrilled chassis, and the proper hole would have placed the outer edge of the hole inside the old hole, and then I'd be looking for a figure-8 grommet
Mark, shrinkwrapping the leads instead of grommetizing is a good idea I didn't think of.

+1 on that. One of my relatively new toys is a Shaviv deburring tool. It is the best toy I've acquired in a while. I kid you not, after deburring chassis hole, I stuck my pinky in there and felt around to see just how smooth. I can tell you there was zero danger. Of course, you have to do the job correctly.

I got mine from Tubedepot too twice. I ruined the first one and lost the burr part for several months after it went flying.

But I don;t use it everyday like I used too.

I've got the yellow one from TD too and I've always wondered if it's me or the tool, as it seems to create a crater as opposed to a nice hole, and feels like it is going to explode at any moment. I would hate to think I need an instruction manual for a deburring tool.
