Whew, I've been listening to them since their first record, I must be getting old(er) too.JazzGuitarGimp wrote:Watching the Tower Of Power 40th anniversary concert (again). Love these guys!
Cheech and Chong were the opening act when I first saw the band.
Funk has staying power!

Francis "Rocco" Prestia is the funkiest bass player ever.
Anybody that thinks you need to slap to play funky needs an education.

Oakland ain't what it used to be, saw some killer shows there back in the day. My first band recorded our first and only album there.

Rocco is a great bass player with technique that is full of idiosyncracies. He is the first bass player, that I am aware of, that so strongly emphasizes the ends of notes. His playing is so tight. He has his own technique.

I love Tower of Power. I've seen them a half dozen times over the last 30 years. They are always great and Super tight. The first time I saw them was at a Tower Records aniversery in the early/mid 1980's.
I heard a story some time ago that when TOP first auditioned for Bill Graham, he told them to go home practice and come back and see him in another year.

Yeah, great band and "Rocco" is a great bassist.
Verdine White, bassist for Earth, Wind & Fire, is another outstanding bassist.
