D'MoSo56

Post by 10thTx »

Thought I'd share this. I built my D'Mars ODS amp and liked the clean channel on it really well. And sometime back, I built Geezer's HoSo56 and liked the 5879 pentode.

So I thought I'd try to get both tones in the same amp. I'm pleased with the results. It also has an onboard active FX.

Here is a thread that has some more information about the amp for anyone who is interested.

You read my mind, I was just toying with an ef86 special without the boost stage.
I liked the clean tone so much I was going to rebuild a Spitfire pre to those values without too much switching action though.

I had just purchased 5 RCA black plate 12AV7s in light of your past designs.

I can't just leave one side of a PI grounded....... Argh! So a nice 2 channel amp must be in the works.
Now with your design I can combine 4 preamps if I eliminate NFB.

So many great preamp ideas, so many combinations.
Single pentode, tweed Champ, Hosa, driven Clubman pentode and the clean Dumbelina, Rocket etc.

Just looking for another nice clean/ less clean combo to go with my Rocket/Ray.

But I probably will try to keep it simple. It ends up sounding better to me anyway.

I really like the 12AV7 tube alot. However, I find more of those microphonic than I do the 12AY7.

Yet, if I can get a good one, I think they are very musical sounding like the 12AY7's are and much less expensive.

Jeff, thanks for posting this amp here... I may have not found it otherwise.

I'm collecting up parts for this as my next project.
