Re: Converting Peavy Deuce amp
I found a mod for installing an active effects loop in Tom Mitchell's " How to service your own tube amp": It looks good, i think this is what I will use. Any opinions?

Re: Converting Peavy Deuce amp
Does this transformer layout look ok? The PT is oriented differently than all the photos and instructions ive seen on the net. Think this will create any hum or unnecessary noise? Oh yeah, and disregard the feet. lol.

Nice!
The Marshall JTM reissues have the same 90° orientation as that. Yes. There is a steady background hum. It's very small and is apparent in standby as well as run, but it never gets off the floor. It's O K. Not ideal, but it works better than the other choice of cutting and filling and turning and whatever.
It kind of pisses me off. Why did you bring it up?!!

lol

Could I just situate the OT on the other side of the chassis where the Peavy one originally was? Would that solve the problem?Reeltarded wrote:Nice!

Interesting idea... I also notice that the spacing as you have it may be a little closer than in a JTMBBRI. Hmm..
You might want to do the headphone tranny skewing test to see what the transforemers think of each other as it is before spending much time wondering. You may be right though.

Headphone test? Do tell
I just dont want to bolt all of this together and build around it only to discover its not in the optimal position

Re: Converting Peavy Deuce amp
Hmm. The peavy chassis measures 8" deep - looks like this does give me a little bit of real estate to work with.
Is there a set of general rules regarding tube and transformer/choke placement that I could follow to minimize hum?

The headphone trick doesn't lie. It's an added step that could make most of the difference in how much you smile when it's done.
