Tremelo Bridge Choices

Post by Cantplay »

I picked up a nice semi hollow strat body. I don't have enough half done projects already.

Unusual also in that its cut for dual humbuckers. Maple on ash.

Its cut for a tremelo bridge, and I need to pick one. Never owned a strat before.

I see chinese made units starting at $20, up to billet titanium for 30X.

As a gearhead I lean towards billet mithril anything, but I have a hard time putting a $600 bridge on a $75 body.

Whats the sweet point here for value?

I switched my Tele and Start over to Callaham bridges and it was the best thing I ever did. On a Strat for less than $150 you get everything and it really works. I got mine here...

In theory, theory is the same as practice. In practice it's different.

OK...
I guess I expected a Strat body...

Good trems from Wilkinson & Gotoh from Stewart-MacDonald for reasonable $$$.

Callaham is about the highest $ & quality I've personally done. +/- $135.00 or so for the entire assembly.

Best of luck.

The Bladerunner is a great bridge! I know the guys that designed and build these. It's high quality stuff at a reasonable price. They make the SuperVee as well...I'm not a big fan of that unit, but the Bladerunner is solid solid solid.

You might find the Babicz full contact trem of interest:

I have a non-trem Babicz bridge on a Tele. It works differently from a conventional design; makes set up easier and more precise IMHO. I like it so much I got one for a Strat, but haven't had time to install it yet.

Thank you all for your opinions.

I've ordered the Babicz in black nickel. I was really tempted by the Bladerunner in their color case hardened finish though.
