NP sovtek 6sc7
Anyone have an opinion on this new prod tube? I want o consider it for an input tube.
Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
I am going to order both the Sovtek 6SC7 and 6SL7 new production tubes for my Fender 5b6 type build.
I am running NOS right now without any problems and this 5b6 is one of my favorite amps when running a pedal board with reverb and Hermida Zendrive.

Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
I just ordered some new production sovtek 6SL7 and 6SN7 to experiment with and they are not bad, actually.
The heaters definitely come through compared to the mini dual triodes, but it's not terrible.
I really liked the sovtek 6SN7 in the phase inverter where noise was not an issue

Ok looking forward to hearing your guys' comments. BTW, welcome back Mark!
Milkman, on the 6SN7 PI, was it a clean amp?

Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
Mark, is that 5b6 the first tweed Bassman?
I always hear about the 5f6 but I don't recall the 5b6.
Glad you're feeling better!

Tom thanks buddy.
I am posting a picture of a Fender 5b6 amp, very kool. A guy on Z-talk forum had one so he uploaded these.

Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
yeah, I tried it in my pedal steel amp which is meant to be very clean and has a long tail PIsurfsup wrote:Milkman, on the 6SN7 PI, was it a clean amp?
I really liked the octal sound, but using an octal preamp tube with the 15" speaker let too much low mid mud through in my opinion.
A lot of steel players are raving about the Little Walter amps, so I figured I would try octal tubes and see what the fuss was all about. On an amp with Tweed style tone control it probably makes more of a difference than mine with its BF Fender style stack.
I could probably tweak values and make it work, but its not worth it. I am sticking with the dual triodes for now
Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
Mark,
Tino's drawing shows PT secondary voltages for the 5B6 at 350-0-350 but he has taken some liberties with his interpretations of some of these classic amps. Does anyone know what the original 5B6 PT voltages were? I'm assuming this is an early Bassman 4k OT?
Thanks.

Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
Dave,
I have attached the Fender schematic/layout and on the layout using a 5U4 rectifier the plate voltage is 390v and screen 320v.
The voltage chart is tino's.

Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
Got a couple of Sovtek 6SC7s from BOI AudioWorks for my new 5B6 today.
They were $16 a piece at BOI AudioWorks (anyone ever use these guys? I had never heard of them) compared to around $20 every where else.
The tubes are very quiet, especially compared to the NOS Haltron and RCA tubes that I had. I was beginning to worry about the circuit not being worth the trouble with the microphonics and hiss, but now I am quite happy. Nice sounding amp, and as quiet as most I have built so far.

Thanks for the review on Sovtek 6SC7 & the lead to BOI. Always problematic to find reasonably quiet NOS 6SC7.telentubes wrote:Got a couple of Sovtek 6SC7s from BOI AudioWorks
down technical blind alleys . . .
Re: NP sovtek 6sc7
Idem. I know little about the insides of tubes but if I was making 6SC7s in 2013 I might just wind the filaments. Crazy? Not possible, because it's a single filament? No way to improve on old octals?Leo_Gnardo wrote:Thanks for the review on Sovtek 6SC7 & the lead to BOI. Always problematic to find reasonably quiet NOS 6SC7.
