When did I ever say that I using a variac as a 'personal protection' device? Geezus Christ all mighty! I use a variac for reforming old caps, testing, short-circuit protection (yes, it works fine for that), and controlling AC output to my gear. I'm quite familiar with electrical theory, and the dangers involved when dealing with electrical current. I use 2 layers of surgical gloves when working on a live device, and with only one hand.
Dood, mellow out...no need to use the Lord's name in vain when we are discussing your safety. Why you would get indignant when someone mentions safety is beyond me. We are all just getting to know you...I am learning that's for sure. I assumed you were not quite familiar with electrical theory since you asked whether to ground the backs of your pots. Do what you will...everyone knows that surgical gloves are a useful safequard for high voltage and current. BTW, what is the breakdown voltage of latex?

Sorry... I said "Geezus", not Jesus. :D I think his name is actually Yeshua.
I now request that this thread be moved to Alt.Guitar.Amps

Well I was kinda on your side.i was thinkin you meant the variac to protect the amp not from electrocuting yourself.A lot of people mistook waht you said and was concerned for your safety.Don't take stuff so seriously I like to joke around and have fun I was just trying to lighten the situation

Wow, no come to Geezus, Jesus or Yeshua meeting required. I guess he turned in his meal card and he won't be coming down for breakfast again.

Wow, that was brief but intense.
Lack of a sense of humor is the worst thing that has afflicted the world since the dawn of time.
That particular affliction seems concentrated in the second decade of the 21st century.
