Ok, so my two BadCat Unleash units showed up today. I decided to give it the acid test right off the bat...why mess around right?

I pulled out my old GA-8 Gibsonette amp that got modified with a 15w Hammond tranny, 4/8/16 ohm switch, and some good glass. Think of it as a single ended 9w Marshall 50w for tone.

I set it up with the Unleash, found a 1 button footswitch from one of my other Marshall modded heads, and hooked it up to a 4x12 with BH75 65w speakers.

According to the BC literature when you use a 16 ohm cab/tap the Unleash is good for 50w, 100w at 8 ohms, 140 at 4 ohms.

Setup time, about 2 minutes to setup the unit and the input level, then I ran Ch 1 at about 1 o'clock, Ch 2 at about 3 o'clock, then let it fly.

The Unleash did a pretty good job of reamplifying the 9w into a 50w amp, and when you kicked in Ch 2 (via foot switch) it kicked it up to around 6db more than the Ch-1 setting.

I could turn down the volume on the guitar and the tone cleaned up like it should around 5-6, crunch chords around 7-8, and then full saturation/gain at 10.

IMO, this unit is going to make a lot of sense for club players, open mic/jam participants, and guys looking to take a lightweight amp that has the tone, but not the volume, and just show up with a 65 or 100w speaker and let it fly.

More testing tomorrow on the 4 and 8 ohm settings but for an initial test it was pretty good.

And now, back to wanking... 8)

I have mine set up as a wet/dry rig. I'm running one of the speaker outputs on my K50 clone to a FluxTone Celestion Gold. The other through the Unleash with reverb and delay in it's effects loop to a Weber Blue Dog. Sounds awesome. The Unleash is truly quite transparent and I like being able to place the effects post PA.

I should also comment that BadCat was very responsive in taking care of the warranty issue I mentioned earlier in this thread. They apparently had an issue with several units in the field. They turned mine around quickly and were great to deal with.
