Help! Fender Super Noise
I just bought this a couple days ago. I turned it on for the first time yesterday and after about 3-5 minutes of half volume or less the power tubes died. I replaced them and now I am getting a noise no matter if something is plugged in or not and the controls (except the treble) have no effect. Sounds like static, like wind blowing. Check the attachmnet.
I'm sure it's in the preamp because I pulled the PI and no more noise. I've also swapped out all the preamp tubes as well as the PI. No effect.
I'm hoping to be able to fix it sometime today because I have band practice tonight.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Andy

Re: Help! Fender Super Noise
More information needed. Which Super? How old? How did it sound when it worked? What makes you think the output tubes died?
Re: Help! Fender Super Noise
Its a handbuilt 5F4 about 2 years old built from the original schematic and layout. It sounded nice, if a little harsh for the few minutes it was working. I got a harsh buzz for a couple seconds before I managed to hit the power switch. When I turned it back on the power tubes wouldn't light and I heard a hum. I swapped power tubes and the new ones worked just fine.

Andy did you contact the builder or previous owner?
Re: Help! Fender Super Noise
I should also say that the wiring and solder joints are amateur at best but solidly connected. I'm actually thinking of redoing the whole thing, because I can;t stand knowing it looks like it does.

Would you guys like to see some pictures of the wiring?

That is really bad wiring
There are so many area's of concern that I would suggest a complete rebuild.

After zooming in on the photos, I concur 100%. Scary!
Re: Help! Fender Super Noise
Yeah, fortunately that's the cheap and easy part for me. It's got Mercury and Hammond transformers, Hammond choke, etc... The board and parts won't be too bad to buy. I'm so irritated that i didn't give it a closer look before I bought it.M Fowler wrote:That is really bad wiring![]()

Re: Help! Fender Super Noise
You don't need new parts! Just rebuild the board with what is already there.
The joints are awful!
