Clips! :D
Yes, those are NOS Sprague mylar film and foil caps. I stumbled onto a stash of them, and I wanted to give them a try during this build. I had to parallel a few caps to get the right values. Unfortunately, I have no recording equipment to make clips. I don't know if those caps (or any caps) have any magic mojo, but they have the vintage cool look.

That's what they run at when you plug them in in 2013, not so sure they ran at that in 1956. I've played and seen many people playing real vintage tweeds in modern times and they all sounded great so 400V or 460V is all good. But for myself I'd knock it down 10% and try and hit what the orig layouts/schematics indicated.

That would be 432V at the reservoir...

I'm really looking forward to hearing these tubes in this amp. Yesterday I drilled the chassis, mounted sockets, built the boards and started the heater wiring. Maybe this weekend I'll be done. We'll see just how busy Friday and Saturday are.

Alright everyone, she's all done and wired with the 8K taps and very glad to report she's just over the 400vdc mark out of the rectumfrier. Just finished about an hour ago and was playing about half that time. I've two GE 6L6GBs in right now and junk preamp tubes and she still sounds killer. Only got up to about noon on the volume dial, but think that this may be my new favorite... That is, until I try the A-470 in my AC30... My 5881s will probably be run tomorrow with a quick rebias as well as some different preamp tubes and my Mullard rect... Then we'll see what's up. :D
