Rocket V6 pics and clip
This raging little rabid monster came to life last night, at which point I was wondering, why so much hum? Then, on the drive to work I realized I forgot to put the 100 ohm artificial ground reference in. Doh!!
The preamp is Rocket-based (though I put a Middle control in), but with a pair of cathode bias 6V6s for power. I used Matt's PT/OT from Musicalpowersupplies.com. They seem to be working great. I've got the amp playing into the speaker for my '74 MusicMaster Bass amp (not a bad guitar amp, actually, if properly tweaked). It's some kind of older Eminence OEM speaker (I guess) with a Fender sticker. Don't know, don't care, sounds good.
The clip was recorded with my el cheapo Radio Shack mic directly into Windows sound recorder. Mucho queso. However, it does capture the raging beast this thing is. ON the clip, the Volume is at 11:00, Treb rolled off to about 8:00, Bass and Middle at noon. Think I'm gonna have to put in that Cut control--it's a bit on the bright side.
The guitar is a Carvin with Gibson 490 humbuckers, bridge pickup on clip. Klotz cable. This thing moves a lot of air for its power. Sounds monster thru a 15" Weber Chicago.
Eventually this thing will be cabbed up with an Eminence Texas Heat, but that's out with a friend right now. Very chewy, cleans up nicely, though it never really gets polite, if ya know what I mean. A bit cleaner with single coils, but too bright--again, need to put in the cut control.
Overall, I dig this thing. Man, I like the crunch that cathode-follower lends to an amp!
Still got some tweaking to do, and the signal caps need a few more hours on 'em before the true tone sets in, but it does rock, baby!

Here's another clip. Starts out clean with the guitar volume rolled back, then turns up.

Man that is bright but with a Ratshack mic I dunno. Kinda hard to tell from here. Looks like a nice build though.

skyboltone,
Yeah, tis bright. I've got the cap/pot for the Cut control, I reckon it'll go in next week, maybe this weekend.
After I did the clips I got the chassis in the raw (no tolex) pine cab, and it definitely helped a bit. I like to use aspen plywood for the baffles, and it does take a wee bit of the edge off.
Hopefully, tomorrow I can get the Texas Heat speaker back and try that.
This is my first try with the teflon wire, and I'm sold on it now.

Sounds a bit like the Top Hat Club Deluxe. Vox top-boost pre with mid control into a pair of 6V6's. The big differences: following from the Rocket you've probably got more supply filtering, and like the Matchless take on the top-boost, the input stage is two triodes in parallel for more push.
So the Club Deluxe is like a Matchless Lightning with 6V6's, and some folks seem to like the Lightning better when they do it that way. Why don't people talk about the Club Deluxe?

Hi All- Nice work Richard!
Just got lead over here from Richard and Andrew. I always enjoy hearing clips with my Xfmrs in them. It looks like the 325PT's are getting to some 6V6 amps now. Cool!
I've got a few clips of the SE iron at www.musicalpowersupplies.com and just picked up a USB audio capture box, so I should be able to post some push pull 18W stuff soon from my amps.
There's another SE clip at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFmGvWmlPU4
I don't have a 6V6 amp project to noodle with <yet> so I can't get you much trainwreck advice. I do have a Superchamp on 6V6's I bought with my very first paycheck after college - love that thing, but I'm not tampering with it.
There are about 40 to 50 feedbacks on the PT's and OT's at my eBay store so far, you may recognize some of the users.
Great site. I'm going to see what all you've got here!

Hey Matt,
Looks like great stuff. Any time frame on the larger OT?

Re: Rocket V6 pics and clip
I put the Hi Cut control in just now, and it makes a world of difference. With that and the Treble I can dial in just the right amount of sparkle, depending on the guitar, without it being harsh. Maybe I can do new clips tomorrow, we'll see. I think the harp guy's coming tomorrow to get his amp.

I expect to have prototypes done this month, factory samples perhaps late next month then parts by October.
The small SE OT is selling really well, so I'll likely need more of those by then. You don't want to ship less than 500# or your load will get no respect.
